Big hikes, sweet strolls, and in the cabin, 18 Chosen Family members trading cooking, chores, filling in a puzzle, playing chess, having a New Years Eve dance party (kiddos with the main moves), hilarious running charades, morning coffee with our readings, quiet conversations in pairs, laughter in groups, and peace all around. It works. We’ve been doing this for many years. Our secret(s) include, at our first meal, everyone shares a memory they would like to make, something they’d be disappointed if they didn’t get to do it, and any group norms they need/would like to ask for (quiet time after 10pm, before 8 am, e.g.). Everyone has full permission to do what they need to do to take care of themself at given moment: a nap, the hot tub, a break….I love these people and their love for me is one of the joys of my life.
