Bonnie’s “breakthrough” album Nick of Time was released 35 years ago! One of our favorite grooves, “Love Letter,” (written by @superbon54) was the second single from the album and has been a staple of Bonnie’s live set ever since. In fact, Bonnie played @thelyricbaltimore Opera House (as it was known then) in Baltimore on June 6, 1989 on the ‘Nick of Time’ Tour and just played the same venue last night to kick off the second leg of her spring ‘Just Like That…” Tour (with Special Guest @jameshuntersix.) @billboard did a wonderful oral history on Nick of Time five years ago and if you’re interested in the genesis of the album, interviews with Bonnie and her collaborators and insight into the climate of the music industry at that time, you can read more at the link in bio. —BRHQ
Bonnie and her band are heading back out on the road this spring on the ‘Just Like That…’ 2024 tour with 27 concerts in the U.S.!! Tickets available at the link in bio.

I’m heartbroken at the loss of one of my dearest friends, Spider John Koerner, who passed away last Saturday at 85 in Minneapolis, surrounded by his family.
We’ve been close friends since we met in ‘69, hung out in Cambridge in the early 70’s and in all the decades since. John, along with Snaker Dave Ray and Tony Little Sun Glover, comprised one of the greatest and most influential blues groups from the mid-Sixties. From the first time I heard their seminal ‘Blues, Rags and Hollers’ album, I’ve been completely under his spell. He was funny, talented, mischievous, always curious —loved life, good music, watching stars and a high time with friends. Between his incredibly unique, funky, rhythmic guitar playing and singing, his great original songs and the hilarious, long-winding stories he’d weave into his sets, there was simply no one like him.
Through their terrific album together, ‘Running, Jumping, Standing Still,’ I met Willie Murphy, who went on to produce my first album and record one of my favorite song of John’s, “I Ain’t Blue.“
We got to enjoy a lifetime of fun, great music and meaning. John will be remembered as one of the most beloved and important revivalists of the great folk and blues song tradition.
My deep condolences to his family and we will remember and treasure him and his wonderful music always.

With so much holiday music lifting our spirits this season, I wanted to share this version of Charles Brown and I singing his iconic “Merry Christmas, Baby” which we recorded in 1992 for the wonderful ‘A Very Special Christmas, Vol. 2’ benefit compilation series for the @specialolympics. We were so honored to feature Charles on our Nick of Time national tour in 1990 and along with fellow R&B legend, Ruth Brown, our very special guests on our Road Tested national tour in 1995. Charles was and will remain one of the greatest artists I’ve known, as well as a dear friend. So glad to celebrate him this Holiday with his classic song, which has brought so much joy since it was a big R&B hit for him back in 1947 (1948 and 1949!)
Visit the link in bio to add “Merry Christmas, Baby” to all of your holiday playlists and put that good music on your “radio.” 😉
Thanks and happy holidays!

We wanted to share another Raitt family gem, holiday card, this one from the next year, 1955. As my Dad was then starring in the hit musical, The Pajama Game, on Broadway, where he created the lead role, Sid Sorokin, (and then played it again in the movie version with Doris Day.) We were gifted with matching pajamas and my folks thought it would be fun decking us all out in pj’s for our card. “Still in Pajamas” is a reference to the previous year’s card when we were all wearing, you guessed it, matching pajamas! — Bonnie
Such a treat to receive the gift of #SpotifyWrapped every year and we are just blown away by how many of you listened and shared Bonnie’s music in 2023! Adding it to 1.2 million playlists (what?!,) welcoming 5.3 million listeners to the family who streamed her songs for the first time and propelling the current GRAMMY (@recordingacademy) Award-winning Song of the Year, “Just Like That” to become one of the most listened-to songs in Bonnie’s catalog along with “I Can’t Make You Love Me” and “Something To Talk About.” We are thrilled that Bonnie’s music is a part of the soundtrack of so many of your lives. Thank you for your support! — BRHQ

What a year it has been! Started off with the GRAMMY Award wins for ‘Just Like That… ‘ and rolled right into the second year of the tour, with 50 concerts spanning the US, Australia, Ireland, England, Scotland and Canada. THANK YOU for coming along for the ride, celebrating Bonnie’s music and her love for performing live with her beloved, amazing band and crew. Our “airplane tracker” makes stops at just a sampling of locations where the tour visited this year. Thank you for another amazing year and we look forward to making more memories with you in 2024! Have a safe and happy holiday and we will see in the new year. — BRHQ
With the start of the new year, we want to share this beautiful short film from @latimes called @thelastrepairshop. It has been getting great response since its release and has just made the short list for the Documentary Short Subject category for the upcoming Oscars @theacademy. The filmmakers, @bgproudfoot and @krisbowersmusic, interview music students of the Los Angeles Unified School District (@laschools) who speak to the impact that music and learning to play an instrument has had on their young lives. The personal stories of the skilled craftspeople who work in the LAUSD instrument repair shop are interesting and so moving. A deep dive “behind the music” and into those that devote themselves to repairing and maintaining instruments to be used over and over again by learners from elementary school age through high school. The film is a testament to the diversity of Los Angeles and the power of music education in the lives of young people who invest themselves in opportunities offered to them, free of charge, and open up a whole new world of music to explore. Watch now on YouTube or visit the link in bio. Please enjoy and share! — BRHQ

At this special time of year, when we gather together with loved ones, in person or virtually — and especially remembering those gone on, I hope we can find a way to celebrate what we have in common, and work to overcome what separates us. That is my wish for us this holiday; That we can celebrate the true meaning of peace and love by treating each other with more understanding and respect.
Happy Holidays to you, from our family to all of yours.
Bonnie
