My first big break was getting the role of Eve Donovan on Days of Our Lives. I, literally, just graduated high school and had driven to LA from Illinois by myself to follow my dreams. I had already been a working actor since 13 yrs old but this, definitely was the role that I had been praying for! Eve was a beautifully damaged, insecure young teen that had been searching for her real father all her life and in her journey (like only a great soap opera would have) she became a hooker to survive but then fell in love with her pimp, got slashed by the “Salem slasher”, was in the hospital and jail too many times to count, sang Wind Beneath My Wings so often that her pimp, Nick bought her a club called “Wings” to sing in, tried to marry Jack (and Frankie?) but it was my character’s suicide attempt after being relentlessly bullied that had a profound effect on me (last clip). I remember getting letters (before social media) from people who had experienced bullying, thought about committing suicide and/ or changed their minds after seeing our storyline, etc. I responded to as many letters as I could with advice/support, bully and suicide hotline numbers, etc.. my heart ached. I never take for granted being in the public eye and will always try to use my platform for more awareness… as best I can anyway. 🙏🏼
The cast became my family in real life and I called it “my College” because I was on for 4 years and lived at UCLA so I could try to live a “normal” life outside of Hollywood and I’m very thankful for the training and work ethic it gave me having to memorize upwards of 40 pages of dialogue a day with maybe one day off a year. Because of my singing on the show, I was able to release an album of original songs with my sweet costar Anthony Alda (RIP) called, After Hours (anyone remember that?). 🎶
Not a day goes by where I’m not continually in awe by the love and support of my loyal fans for this role- I’m touched and beyond grateful as Eve will always be a huge part of my soul… 🙏🏼❤️

Arts Express Yourself event yesterday! 🎨 I first started going when my son was very little as I believe in their mission which is dedicated to advancing equity and opportunities for children by providing arts education in systematically under-resourced public schools and communities. I feel strongly that every child deserves to have the chance to artistically express themselves in school to learn more about who they are, what they’re passionate about and explore their untapped limitless capabilities! ✍🏻🎬🎸🎭🎼 #psartsexpressyourself #psarts #art #artinschools

⭐️My single, BOTH SIDES NOW, is out today! 🎉 I’ve teamed up with the iconic, Giorgio Moroder, to sing this classic as it’s touched my soul since I was a little girl. I think we all can relate to looking up at the clouds when we were young, filled with innocence, naiveté and big dreams but as we grew we learned the hard realization that life can be soo unbearably painful at times but… I have found that the beauty of growing older is that the lessons I’ve learned make life richer as a better understanding of myself and my self- worth has, thankfully evolved. I sang this song just days after the love of my life (or so I thought) left me – I sang it in one take and never attempted to try to capture it again as… it’s my soul laid bare. Why I love being an artist, I suppose. I have zero expectations for the release of this song- it’s a true labor of love and a full circle moment as I released an album with Giorgio in Europe when I first moved to LA at 17 yrs old – my dear friend ever since. I hope our rendition of this song reminds you that when one dark door closes and you have the strength to walk through it, the other side is more beautiful and yet, ironically the more we learn… sometimes the less we really know.
I dedicate this song to my father, Peter who deeply loved my singing- I’m sure he’s up above smiling and…hopefully proud of me… ❤️

Last night I was honored to join the celebration of my friend (and IDOL!) the extraordinary, Dr Jane Goodall for her Birthday with a screening of her new documentary, JANE which has archived footage of her groundbreaking Chimpanzee research. She has inspired me (and millions of others) for years which led me to have the opportunity to lobby on Capitol Hill for the release all Chimps from archaic testing labs to retirement sanctuaries to live out their days outside of small cages, feeling the sun and grass, etc. Chimps have always fascinated me and she has educated us all how to make sure they’re better protected (along with other innocent animals). She is a trailblazer who defied the odds to become one of the world’s most admired conservationists. I play baseballs’s first female umpire in this indie film called, The Umpire. Written and directed by a true visionary, Libby Wells. Loved learning all things baseball for this movie and playing such a brave badass. We’re very grateful that it did well at the film festivals. I loved playing Donna Smoak (aka Mama Smoak) on the series ARROW. She owned her weaknesses which I think is a very honest and brave thing to do yet she had child-like innocence, infectious joy and gratitude because she had overcome a pretty rough road in life- attributes I think we can all relate to and in turn aspire for. I loved the producers, crew and cast in this show very much- they all became family to me but it was my adoration and intangible chemistry with @emilybett who played my daughter, Felicity, that inspired me deeply and made our scenes together extraordinarily magical for me to be a part of and reminded me how women who truly support other women is incredibly empowering…may we all strive to do more of that 🙏🏼❤️🌟 #arrow #fbf #mamasmoak #womensupportingwomen
