The transition to clean energy MUST be equitable. “(Women) are tilling land that is everyday more arid, more dry and less fertile… We still do not have the support for people who have not caused climate change… that to me is one of the main injustices.” @cfigueres with @shailenewoodley and @robertd.bullard at the #TIME100 summit in New York this week. #climatejustice #climatejusticenow

Confession: I cannot hold a tune or hit a note; I am a frustrated singer. But inspired by the multi-talented Zen Buddhist monk Brother @PhapHuu of Plum Village, I have decided to teach myself to rap… So here is my first attempt, ‘Revolution, Evolution,Time to Heal’, about where we are on climate, written and performed by rookie me, with lots of patient coaching from family and friends. Hit it! #Evolution #ClimateRevolution #musicforchange #musicforlife #TimeToHeal #OutrageandOptimism #stubbornoptimism #climateoptimism #stubbornoptimist #climateoptimist #climatepositive #KeepItInTheGround
The despair expressed by climate scientists this week isn’t scaremongering – they are doing their job. They are telling us where we are, but now it’s up to the rest of us to decide what this moment requires of us and to radically change the direction of travel. My piece in the @guardian yesterday. #stubbornoptimism

Do you find yourself flipping between conflicting emotions these days? From outrage to optimism, fear to hope and everything in between… you’re not alone. As the world approaches the halfway point in this decisive decade, two things are true at the same time: 1️⃣ The energy transition is in full swing: Costs for clean technologies are plummeting, progress is speeding up every year and fossil fuel demand is dying. 2️⃣ Despite this progress, we’re not moving at the speed required. Next year governments will submit updated national climate plans (NDCs) to the UN – these plans must close the current ambition gap and reflect the progress already underway. 👉 Can we hold both these truths close, so that we can embrace all the feelings and take the action required to get ourselves on track for a cleaner future? 👉 We can. It is absolutely possible and we are totally capable. Swipe to see why the transformation is unstoppable – and let us know how you feel after reading this 👇 Want to find out more? Some special moments from the @time Earth Awards last week. 1️⃣Thrilled to join these amazing sisters @XijeBeara, @nemonte.nenquimo @GabrielaHearst – awe-inspiring fighters one and all. 2️⃣Yes his acting is pretty good 😉 but Harrison Ford’s environmental activism is even more outstanding! 3️⃣The incredible Jane Fonda is still going SO strong. Now focusing on this year’s US election – with NO mincing of words. 4️⃣I love the no nonsense attitude toward the work which needs doing from sustainable fashion icon Gabriela Hearst. It is wonderful to see how love for Mother Earth plus a gritty determination to just keep going (despite the many, many obstacles and setbacks) is driving heart-felt climate action in every sphere. I draw such inspiration from these individuals – and also from knowing that for each of these people celebrated here, there are 1000s more behind the scenes working with equal passion and determination.

As we reach the end of the year, @CFigueres reminds us: – Society is on an upwards trajectory – The technology, science, finance & policies to solve #climatechange do exist – We are capable of bringing them together #WeCanDoThis Excerpt from ‘A True Paradise: Overcoming Paralysis’ a short film from @unuehs Watch the whole film here: https://youtu.be/w5tuhCVLfV4 Produced by Dirk Wilutzky & Mathilde Bonnefoy. #stubbornoptimism #ClimateCrisis #hello2023 #climatepositive #positivenews #climateaction #climateeducation #climateemergency #outrageandoptimism #climatepodcast #climatejustice #climatenews

Did you hear @cfigueres talking about @earthdaynetwork’s ‘Babies vs. Plastic’ report in our recent episode? The report found evidence that microplastics… 🚨are accumulating in our major organs including the brain 🚨have been found in the human placenta 🚨have been linked to rates of miscarriage and male infertility 🚨have been detected in both dairy milk and breast milk 🚨are ingested/inhaled up to 10 times more by babies than by adults These findings are chilling – a physical manifestation of the all-pervasive effects of climate change which are now literally under our skin. It directly affects all of us, our own children, our own babies. Yes, it’s terrifying. AND if we tune in to the pain and the fear, if we actually feel it, this is the best incentive to step into action. You can: 💚 Join @earthdaynetwork’s call demanding a 60% reduction of all plastics by 2040 which pushes for a strong UN Treaty on plastic pollution 💚 Advocate for widespread awareness on the health risks of plastics 💚 Demand an end to fast fashion Progress is underway – just last week a proposal was put forward by Rwanda and Peru to reduce global plastic production by 40% by 2040 – it’s not 60% but it is a move in the right direction. The two countries say it would align with the Paris Agreement aims to limit global warming to 1.5C. Building a plastic-free planet for future generations is possible, if we take urgent action now. 👉Head to www.earthday.org to read the report. 👉Listen to our recent episode ‘Microplastics, Transition Plans and The Beginning of The End of The Climate Crisis?’ via the link in our bio. ⚡️NEW EPISODE⚡️ This week… @cfigueres on an alarming report from @earthdaynetwork Babies vs Plastics, which shows just how harmful microplastics can be to humans, with babies being particularly vulnerable. We need to shift our plastic habits FAST – fortunately alternatives and solutions do exist, such as @earthshotprize winners @notpla who manufacture a plastic alternative from seaweed and plants 👏 Paul Dickinson explains the huge potential of corporate transition plans and @tomcarnac asks might now be the beginning of the end of the climate crisis?! Tune in to find out whether the others agree… as you might expect, it’s complicated. Our very special music this week comes from @cosmosheldrake with his song, “Soil (feat. NATURE)”. This homage to the powerful transformative and generative capacities of subterranean ecosystems is part of the @museumfortheun or and @earthpercent ‘s new initiative @soundsright.earth which recognizes NATURE as an artist 🎉 Royalties from this track and others featuring Nature’s sounds will go to fund the conservation of NATURE’s most precious and precarious ecosystems 🌊 Listen via the link in our bio, or wherever you get your podcasts 🎧 #PlanetvsPlastics #EarthDay #plasticistoxic #EndPlastics #soundsrightearth #stubbornoptimism #stubbornoptimist #climatepositive #climatecrisis #positivenews #climateaction #climateeducation #climateemergency #outrageandoptimism #climatepodcast #climatejustice #climatenews
