My dad died March 5, 2011, twelve years ago today, and my brother two years ago in July. Such beautiful, strong black men, both gone before what we hoped would be their time. While acceptance is the answer to all my problems today, these anniversaries hit hard. Tell your family you love them, even if the relationships are tough to navigate. You never know what could be your last conversation. Go to the doctor, even if you don’t want to go. Take your prescribed medication. Do it for yourself, and also for the people that love you.
