Last week’s gussied up episode was one of my favorite to date! If you’ve ever struggled making a biscuit you should go watch the full episode. Link in story and bio. Buttermilk Drop Biscuits
2 cups AP flour
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
3/4 teaspoon baking soda
1 tablespoon granulated sugar
1 teaspoon kosher salt
1 cup cold buttermilk
1/2 cup melted butter
Egg (optional)
Method:
Preheat the oven to 450 degrees F.
In a large bowl whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, sugar and salt.
Pour in the buttermilk and melted butter and stir until a dough form. After the dough comes together give it a couple extra stirs just to make sure enough gluten has developed to give the biscuit structure.
Using a 3 ounce full portion scoop, dollop the dough onto a cookie sheet lined with parchment. Combine the egg with 1 tablespoon water and whisk. Gently brush the tops of the biscuits. Bake until the tops are golden and the center is just set, about 11-13 minutes.
Remove from the oven and enjoy immediately.
Makes: 6 biscuits

Sour Cream Pound Cake
Ingredients:
4 eggs, room temperature 1 cup unsalted butter, room temperature 1 cup sugar 1 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup sour cream
1 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoon vanilla 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
2 tablespoons turbinado sugar

Everyone needs an easy from scratch chocolate cake recipe! This one works with every frosting, can be made into cupcakes and freezes beautifully!
Classic Chocolate Cake
Ingredients:
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
3/4 cup cocoa powder
1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
3/4 teaspoon baking powder
3/4 teaspoon fine salt
1 1/2 cups buttermilk
1/4 cup vegetable oil
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
2 large eggs
Preheat the oven to 350 Degrees F. Line two 8 inch pans with parchment.
Combine the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder and salt in a large bowl. In a second bowl, whisk together the buttermilk, oil, vanilla and eggs. Make a well in the dry ingredients and add in the wet mixture, whisking until just combined.
Divide the batter evenly between the two prepared cake pans. Bake on the center rack until puffed, the sides pull away from the edges and an inserted cake tester comes out clean, 30 to 35 minutes. Remove the cakes from the oven, immediately cover them with clean kitchen towels and press any domed portions down, careful, it’s hot! (This will help make sure that you don’t have to level the cakes.) Allow the cakes to cool in their pans to room temperature. When completely cooled, invert onto plates.

You can also add instant espresso powder or coffee to a box brownies mix as a quick and easy gussied up move!
Mocha Brownies
Ingredients:
10 tablespoons unsalted butter, cubed
1 cup sugar
3/4 cup cocoa powder
1 teaspoon instant espresso
2 large eggs
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1/3 cup dark chocolate chips
Nonstick cooking spray
Powdered sugar to garnish
Method:
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Spray an 8 x 10 nonstick pan with cooking spray and line with parchment paper. Set aside.
In a heatproof bowl set over (but not in) a saucepan of gently simmering water, combine the butter, sugar, cocoa powder, and espresso powder. Stir continuously until the butter is melted and the mixture is smooth and hot to the touch, about 6-8 minutes (you can also do this in the microwave, just heat in 30 second increments, stirring after each time until melted, about 2 minutes total)
Remove from the heat and stir with a silicone spatula until cool, about 2 minutes. Stir in the eggs, one at a time, and then the vanilla a d salt until the mixture gets very shiny and smooth, about 2 minutes. Fold in the flour. The batter will be very thick. Sprinkle with chocolate chips.
Bake until the edges pull from the sides and the top is set, about 15-20 minutes. Cool in the pan for 15 minutes before cutting and sprinkling with powdered sugar to serve.

Orange Violet Blender Cake

Remove from the oven a cool for 10 minutes before Turing it out of the pan. Cool for another 30 minutes.
Meanwhile make the icing by combining the orange zest, powdered sugar and 4 tablespoons of orange juice. The mixture will be thick. Add more juice, 1 tablespoon at a time until the texture resembles school glue.
Drizzle evenly onto the cake and garnish with violets. Serve immediately or wrap and store for up to 3 days.
