When I was in my teens, I used to write songs about books, and stories that would blossom from my imagination. I wanted the lyrics to be philosophical and smart and deep. I read Salinger and Bukowski and Plath. I was trying so hard to be interesting, instead of just… being myself. Now, in my 30s, I feel that our lyrics have gotten more… direct. How can I say what I mean in the most authentic way that is simple and pure? Our new song, “Casual,” is about where I am now in my life. Struggling to find meaningful connections in a city that’s always on the go. I’ve learned to speak up for what I want. I don’t want something casual. I want something fucking spectacular. I still believe that it’s possible. Please take a listen to our new song if you get a moment. It’s meaningful to me. xx

Funny how the new @meganddiamusic song means something so different to me now than when we were writing it. I guess my past self can hold my hand through a little bit of heart break, and a whole lot of uncertainty. But I guess I always did enjoy getting lost. “Looked back but just for a minute, A daydream, I think I was in it. Homesick for sunburns in K-town, Lit up, we burn high, we burn out.” My heart feels heavy💔❤️🩹
My new morning mantra: I have no control over my future. Try it. It’s kind of fun. Don’t spoil the ending. 💚 📷 @caseyarakawa.co

I’ve had the honor and pleasure of working with many wonderful dance DJ’s in the EDM world. I often receive DM’s from blossoming new songwriters, asking how they can get their foot in the door. It’s a competitive space, as is most anything these days, but if you keep your head down and work hard, I believe that soon you’ll be creating and collaborating with people you love!
1. Don’t randomly send your songs to just anyone. Reach out to people you genuinely admire.
2. There really isn’t a good excuse for bad quality recordings these days with technology being where it’s at. Folks are submitting top notch, edited, and mixed vocal demos nowadays. Even if yours is a great song, it will get lost among the other polished and ready to go tunes.
3. Be patient. Lots of producers pass on songs that I personally love. Sometimes it takes a while for them to find a home. A DJ recently released a song I co-wrote over 10 years ago.
4. Don’t be shy to DM people directly. Even with a great management team, I still do this often. I’d say it’s 50/50 of whether I get a response or not. But going back to tip #1, only reach out to people you genuinely admire and want to work with.
5. “Needed you” with Illenium was pitched as a simple piano demo that I co-wrote with Lindgren & Melanie Fontana. It wasn’t a big, fully produced song, but we believed in it. As you can hear now, the talented Illenium made it a pretty epic track. A lot of producers will be able to hear where a song can go, so don’t be afraid to send in a simple piano + vocal. Again, make sure it is still mixed, edited and polished!
Happy writing ya’ll. Excited to hear many more vocalists rise up in the dance world. It’s a fun universe to be in.
❤️❤️❤️

I work a lot behind the scenes, with various talented and generous producers and musicians. I used to tour all the time, and the other night, I was reminded of how much I miss it. Nothing compares to the energy, connection and community that you experience when performing live with so many wonderful people. People who took time out of their day to come spend a few of their precious hours with you. So grateful to the ridiculously talented @dabinmusic for inviting me to the @stayinbloomfest 🧚🏽♂️💚🪷 It was a magical night and I feel so lucky to be a part of it. 📷 @pattrickle
