We all want to protect our kids from tragedy and then life happens and we can’t. We also think they are so fragile that it’s better to not talk about difficult things. But when we avoid talking about what our kids are going through, we delegitimize their experience and deny their feelings. The more that we ask Scarlett to talk about her thoughts and feelings, the more she heals, the more she opens her heart , and the more empathy she develops. She becomes more in tune with both herself and the world around her. We can handle hard things. And so can our kids.
