It was a great honor to meet her and her equally unyielding partner @senmarkkelly to support the GIFFORDS organization and its mission to end gun violence. This is not a partisan issue, it is a human and safety issue. I urge you to support this organization that is affecting change in policies as well as hearts and minds.
I stand with them and all of the human beings in this country demanding safety for our children & families — in the home, in our schools, in our places of worship, and on our streets.
Some stats:
Guns are the *leading cause of death* for children in the United States. (Read that again, *the leading cause of death of children*😳💔.)
Domestic violence victims are 5 X MORE LIKELY to be killed when their abuser has access to a gun. 😳 💔
Gun violence kills 43,000 Americans a year. 😳 💔
Over the course of EVERY AMERICAN’s LIFETIME, they will know someone who loses their life to gun violence. 😳💔
Has it happened to you yet? What are you waiting for? I never thought it would happen to me or my family, but my daughter was only 8 years old when gun violence impacted our family. How high will that number rise by the time she is in high school? In college?
