Emma Dabiri Instagram – Ireland recognises the state of Palestine !! (Trigger warning heartbreaking images of murdered Palestinians)
Over the weekend I spoke at the European Writers Festival I was asked about how my Irishness informs my life and my writing. I said that no matter where I am in the world being Irish is my anchor but didn’t have time to expand too much on what that meant.
Here’s an example. Irelands recognition of the Palestinian State reflects our own history, the formerly oppressed siding with the currently oppressed. I’ve never really felt more proud to be Irish, nor felt as strongly the necessity of that anchor ! I feel it now keenly in this context, living in the centre of empire, in the beating heart of Babylon where atrocity is normalised and defended everyday, where we are expected to fall in line compliantly and so many clearly do so. But as an Irish person “raised on songs stories of heroes of renown” of freedom fighters, of steadfastness, of unimaginable bravery and integrity in the face of crushing colonial oppression, I know the difference between the coloniser and colonised and I know that the coloniser will employ the full force of their powerful propaganda machine to dehumanise the colonised and try to convince us that they deserve to be destroyed.

Have also included some images of the daily slaughter being meted out upon Palestinian people…it’s beyond fucking disgusting…how anybody can justify, deny or entirely ignore what’s happening just beggars belief at this stage
