“She’s reckoning with the occupational hazards of acting, particularly as experienced by a woman who catapulted to fame when the industry was still a boys’ club, being sexualized and, at the same time, dampening certain qualities to present as the woman those boys wanted to see. She’s now in the most Hollywood of franchises while trying to live that normal life outside Hollywood, caught between what the job demands of her and what she wants for herself. She’s found her voice but also learned the cost of using it.
“I’ve spent most of my life trying to be a good girl,” she says. “That’s a very dangerous game to play in Hollywood, because there are a lot of agendas.”

Thank you @clayskipper for our 2.5 hours chatting together and for the very fair and honest way you represented that conversation in your article.
@austinhargrave thank you so much for a very fun and beautiful shoot. Thank you for capturing my true essence and not some bullshit sexualized version of my essence.
And to my NYC team for finding me so that I could shine:

“I think that we run an incredible risk, in the current wave if feminism, of sending the message to women and girls that if you want to be powerful then you should act and present in a masculine way. ‘You should be tough, you should be hard, you should take no prisoners’; all these really toxic stereotypes of what it means to be strong. I think that there is an incredible amount if strength in quintessentially female qualities of compassion and vulnerability and sensitivity, and that it’s okay to be a girl who wants to be soft. That doesn’t make you weak and that doesn’t make you lame. That’s really important to me… Little girls should not be asked to abandon their femininity in order to be powerful.”

As the jet lag starts to dust off and the routine of life lingers nearby, the challenge of the mundane arises – how to keep it inspired?
Listening, in every moment, to that still, small voice within is the only way, but in the practical ‘everyday’ of it all, listening can be littered with doubt and disobedience.
“What if this is just my voice? What if I’m delusional and not inspired?” “Maybe I shouldn’t do my breathing practice right now. Maybe I should watch a movie instead?”
“Thus as long as the soul uses its bodily organs aright, a man is called sane; but truly, when it bursts its chains and tries to be free, practicing running away from its prison, then one calls it insanity.” #Erasmus
But, “[n]othing great can be accomplished without a constant solicitation of madness, which should always be overcome, but should never be entirely lacking.” #Schelling
And so goes the dance – staying in reality while flirting with divinity and, in this way, gaining meaning and force within the “small” and “everyday”; in this way, knowing where to put my feet in each moment…where to start and where to go.

“My son doesn’t differentiate between female and male superheroes. It’s all about their capabilities, their power, their personality, what they contribute and how cool they are. When I was growing up, it wasn’t like that at all; if you asked a little boy what superhero they would want to be, there is no way he would say Wonder Woman. She was so sexualized and such the embodiment of male fantasies of a woman, that a boy could instinctively know there was a weakness there, and that he wanted no part of that. So that’s really exciting for me to be a part of.” (Excerpt from @amazingmagazine cover article, Issue #3, avail to order now! Link in bio.)

We are thrilled to announce that Evangeline Lilly is Getting LOST!
Despite LOST being one of her very first acting jobs, Evie’s performance as Kate Austen is nothing short of iconic. From her very first moments on screen in the pilot episode, she brought a level of vulnerability and ferocity to the screen that helped make LOST one of the greatest television shows of all time. We were lucky enough to sit down with her 20 years later to reflect on her time on the island.

I have loved Sarah Polley since seeing Away From Her starting Julie Christie, so much so that I once crashed an audition for Take This Waltz just to tell her so.
My agent had secured me an audition but based on the script I asked in advance if there was any point in my auditioning if I wasn’t willing to do my own nudity. The answer came back, ‘no’. There was no point. The role required it. …And I wasn’t willing.
I intentionally mislead my agent to have her keep the audition open and showed up on the day anyway. I was so afraid of wasting Sarah’s time, I wanted so much to be respectful and humble, that I stepped into the room, explained that l wasn’t willing to do nudity and confirmed that that discluded me from the role, and then told Sarah what a fan I was of her work and left. I didn’t even make space for her and I to speak, to have a conversation. I was too Christian, too Canadian, too worried about making her unhappy with me for highjacking her audition to “trouble her further”. One of the many regrets my misplaced humility brought me in my career.
Since then I found her writing on the #MeToo movement to be the best piece of articulate truth I had read in ages. It moved me and made me feel seen.
And, now, Women Talking.
Sarah Polley has a gift. She knows story – how to craft words, sounds, and pictures into meaning and evolution. That is so much harder than it seems and is so rare today. I consider her a gift.

Sometimes I look around my house at the “signs of life” and see signs of BOYS everywhere. One day they will be gone…replaced by order and style. And it will feel sad…and beautiful all at once. Sad because they will be gone, but beautiful because I was fully in it while they were here. 🥹
