Mommy died 7 years ago today. She was 80 years old. Look at this face that comforted me when I cried. These soft lips that kissed me goodnight. I learned to tilt my head back and laugh hard from Mommy, to pray everyday from this beautiful sweet woman that I miss everyday. If you lost someone you love, say their name in the comments. Emma Lee Lewis is hers. Mommy, your love is eternal; you are everlasting life to me. Last year at our Freedom Rising Conference a love warrior brought this restored photo to me as a gift. Thank you friend. Hope you’re coming this weekend. Can’t wait to be in a community of love TOMORROW. www.freedomrisingconference.com for tickets to join us digitally or in person. #Mothers #MommyAndMe #Grief #FreedomRising
Middle Church is a multicultural, multiethnic, healing pool for ALL the people. If you didn’t catch @revjacquilewis ‘s sermon “Toward the Matter of Wholeness” this Sunday at our annual Freedom Rising Conference. You can watch it using the link in the bio. If you believe the ONLY way anyone gets to be apart of a community is through the getting “right”ness and likeness of a white patriarchal God… then we ain’t the spot for you!
Looking back at our #FreedomRising2024 conference from the other week. It was AMAZING. If you missed this years, you will not want to miss the next one. Middle Church is a multicultural, multiethnic, intergenerational movement of Spirit and justice, powered by fierce, revolutionary Love, with room for all. Freedom Rising is an extension of this. And guess what? We have already began preparation for #FreedomRising2025 . We are in the FIERCE urgency of NOW. The work doesn’t stop with the election, it has only now begun. We have a special promo for EARLY BIRD tickets and you’ll wanna grab them now. LINK IN THE BIO! We can’t do this work without you!
Questions for you: 1. Why do you follow me? 2. What do you need to see more of? My loves, we are deep in hot mess times. We all know this. At this point all I can do is ask myself how I can continue to be useful. So I’m curious, what led you to follow this page and how can I help you theologically, spiritually, personally? I am at your service. Comment below. I would be so grateful for your thoughts. We have a people problem in this nation. In this world, really. What will it take for us to be able to listen to one another and to operate out of love and not fear? Stay tuned for Part 2 of this @theoedtalks coming soon. I believe that a big part of our problem is that we have constructed a puny God who only has love for some and not all. But Beloveds, God’s love knows no boundaries, and there is room enough for all of us. #FierceLove #GodIsLove #ProgressiveFaith #ProgressiveChristianity #FaithfullyLGBT #LovePeriod #IntersectionalFaith #PeaceNow
My mom never met these little love bugs. I miss her. My grief acutely tied to how much I love her. And these grandbabies? What a joy! Handmade presents. Quiet cuddles. Raucous tickling. Raising a glass to all who mother. Moms, Nanas, Tias, Big Mamas, Aunties, and yes, Dads and other male identified folks who mother children. It takes a village to raise our children, to mentor love warriors. Let’s go!! #HappyMothersDay #grandchildren #FierceLove #LoveWarriors #Grandmother #Nana

I got Anne Frank’s diary as birthday present when I was eleven. Her words broke into my heart, one teen to another. In an entry on May 18, 1943, she wrote of students protesting Hitler’s regime, refusing to sign on to documents saying they were in “…sympathy with the Germans;” they refused to say they approved of Hitler’s new order. This resistance meant the end of their college careers. I am struck now to think of how students throughout time have protested, resisted and changed the world. Anne Frank’s hiding place was at Prinsengracht 263. Otto Frank rented the property for his business, just steps away from Westerkirk, the large church in the center of town. Most of the houses had annexes, places to store merchandise and supplies. This annex became Anne’s home for two years, a place in which she wrote her diary, recording her life from June 2 1942 to March 29 1944. John and I were in the Netherlands in 2016 celebrating our wedding anniversary. We took so many photos; we love taking photos. But the Anne Frank House? As I recall that day we could not take photos inside. But even outside, I did not photograph the house or the doors. It was as though it was irreverent to do so. Etched in my memory though is the rotating bookcase that hid the stairs that led to the annex, the pages of her diary on display, and the photos of a girl only a little older than I was when I first read her book. Except for the teachings of Jesus—also a Jew like Anne—her stories were my first encounter with stories of Jewish life. Since then, I’ve been on a journey of learning, touched by what I’ve experienced in museums, in havruta—study—with Rabbis in Israel, in text books, in shabbat meals, in relationship with SO many rabbis and other Jewish friends, and in the amazing corpus of literature, music and art that Jewish people have contributed to American culture. In this month of Jewish Heritage, I celebrate all of this, and more. And I thank God for Anne Frank , and her father Otto who made sure I could read her stories, and know a piece of her life. #JewishHeritageMonth #Ubuntu #AnneFrank #StopAntiSemitism #PrayForPeace #Resist #GodIsLove #DiaryOfAnneFrank #Empathy

We have to accept the ugly truth that religion has been a massive force in causing hate. Do we WANT to be well? If so, we have to break down barriers and decide that we ALL are sacred and we are ALL chosen. This is a clip from my sermon last week at #FreedomRising. Full sermon is on YouTube and at the link in my bio. ❤️✊🏾 #GodIsLove #HealTheWorld #RevDrJacquiLewis #ProgressiveChristianity #WWJD #SpreadLove #FierceLove #LovePeriod
Bullying shuts people down. As a society we need to ask ourselves- do we want to have conversations, or do we want to be right? Do we want to move the needle towards understanding, or do we want to send people into fight or flight? Do we REALLY want understanding? #LovePeriod #FierceLove #Conversation #WWJD #LoveThyNeighbor #RevDrJacquiLewis #QuoteOfTheDay #Monday #StopBullying
Can you be Feminist & Christian? Yes. You can. In fact, I’d even say that Jesus himself was a feminist. Watch my video to hear why. But the long and the short of it: the first person to spread the good news was a woman. Despite some conservative beliefs that women cannot and should not lead in the church, women have had voices in the Christian faith from day one. ❤️✊🏾 Thanks for this question. Keep sending me any of the thoughts/questions that you are wrestling with. And comment below- what has your experience been with faith and feminism? I love you all! #FixedIt #BrokenTheology #FixedItBrokenTheology #ThisIsWhatAMinisterLooksLike #FierceLove #ProgressiveFaith #ProgressiveChristianity #GodIsLove #Jesus #WWJD #WomanStrong #RevDrJacquiLewis @middlechurch #Feminist #Womanist
