Jenny Beavan Instagram – I have received a bill from Thames Water I feel I need to share .. in one way it is hysterically funny, in another could bring on a heart attack.
I have paid my metered water bill for years, around £100 per bill, sometimes more sometimes less, but was recently issued with a bill for over £5000! I challenged it of course via Thames Water’s WhatsApp chat room – sure the various members of the ‘Team’ are AI but occasionally they almost give a sensible reply. So someone was sent to re-read the meter and I got a revised bill – £4,142.00 and a breakdown of the amount of water I had used. According to Thames Water my usage was equivalent to 6,036,000 cups of tea, 20,120 showers or 18,863 baths … you couldn’t make it up!
I have of course challenged it again! It is becoming something of a mission. I am reasonably resilient but I nearly passed out when I saw the first bill – imagine being a pensioner, someone on a small income getting such a bill – my heart goes out to them. I understand Grayson Perry had a utilities bill for £39,000 so I am not the only one.
I have my wonderful MP Harriet Harman on the case too but feel it is important to flag these things up .. and I am sure she has more important things to do!! It is just so almost deliciously ridiculous …
