Jody Watley Instagram – #flashbackfriday 2010 on this pre-Mother’s Day weekend with my Mom Ms. Rose 🌹 ♥️ (I miss her so much 🙏🏽😔💔😇🕊️but so thankful for these moments) this at Grammy Museum event for visionary Don Cornelius | Soul Train Hippest Trip VH1 Documentary Screening and Panel with Don & legend Smokey Robinson. ❤️Short backstory:: Classic Motown is such a huge part of the soundtrack of my life and inspired me to want to be an entertainer, songwriter etc and my Mom of course witnessed it when I was little with me singing the songs in a hair brush often playing dress up in her clothes! This fact actually made meeting one of the architects of the Motown sound and one of the greatest songwriters of all time even more special because my Mom got to experience it too AND to see me on a panel discussing music and songwriting with one of my music heroes was / is surreal!! Meeting Smokey with me and also saying hello to Don whom she had first met decades earlier when my Dad & Don were on the same radio station in Chicago when I was a little girl – BEFORE he went on to create the iconic Soul Train TV show!
