Obama: “you can’t name a SINGLE THING Trump has done for our country, or his own supporters.”
#BarackObama #DonaldTrump #Trump2024 #Conservatives #Republicans
#onthisday in 2009, President Obama nominated Sonia Sotomayor to the Supreme Court. This week she issued a terrifying warning about what the Court, packed by #leonardleo and #donaldtrump with six far right wing Christian nationalist justices, have planned for the rest of us. The courts are a voting issue. Hell they might be THE voting issue. And if Trump wins, Alito and Thomas will likely retire so Trump can replace them with 30 or 40 year old versions, which means we are trapped in this oncoming #handmaidstale likely for the rest of our lives. It’s time to wake up, #vote and #staywoke.
Quite a warning here from documentary filmmaker @kenlburns about the stakes of the November election…
Just sayin…

“Coco Gauff, the reigning U.S. Open champion who’s considered a favorite at the French Open tournament that begins this weekend, told The Associated Press in an interview that right now is ‘a crazy time to be a Floridian, especially a Black one at that,’” writes Florida state Sen. Shevrin Jones.
“As a state senator who represents Miami Gardens, Florida’s largest majority-Black city, I applaud Gauff for standing up and speaking out against the state’s open hostility toward Black Americans.”
“[Gov. Ron] DeSantis needs to own the fact that he’s the reason why prominent athletes, companies, civil rights organizations, current residents and visitors alike are declaring our state as unsafe and hostile to millions of Americans,” Jones writes. “Over the last five years, he and the Legislature he controls have led an aggressive assault on civil liberties and rights — putting Black Americans, the LGBTQ community, immigrants and women in the crosshairs.”

Viola Fletcher, the oldest living survivor of the Tulsa Race Massacre, turned 110 years old on May 5, 2024. “I’m real proud to be this age,” Fletcher told WHSV3.
The mother of three and grandmother of six celebrated her birthday surrounded by family, friends, and neighbors with plenty of food, flowers, and music. There’s certainly a lot to celebrate for this centenarian. Fletcher was seven years old when a racist white mob brutally attacked and destroyed the homes, businesses, and property of Black residents in the Greenwood neighborhood of Tulsa.
The resulting devastation and poverty are still impacting the Black community in Tulsa generations later. Mother Fletcher–along with fellow Tulsa survivor Lessie Benningfield Randle–launched a case against the city of Tulsa to receive reparations following the massacre that left 300 Black Tulsans dead, 9,000 Black residents homeless, and the Greenwood area known as Black Wall Street burned to the ground.

Voters in key swing states are expressing greater confidence in Vice President Kamala Harris’ ability to serve as president, according to a new poll from Morning Consult and Bloomberg News.
Almost half of registered voters polled in seven swing states, 48 percent, said they would trust Harris a lot or somewhat to assume the responsibilities of the presidency if President Joe Biden could no longer do so. Eleven percent of voters said they wouldn’t trust Harris very much while 38 percent said they wouldn’t trust Harris at all.
It marks the highest level of confidence in Harris’ ability to serve as president since Morning Consult and Bloomberg began polling voters in the seven battlegrounds of Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, North Carolina, Nevada, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin in October. The latest survey, conducted from May 7-13, surveyed nearly 5,000 registered voters in those states.
Biden’s age has consistently registered as a concern for voters. If re-elected, Biden, 81, would be 87 at the end of his second term in 2029. Former President Donald Trump, Biden’s Republican opponent for president, turns 78 in June.
In the poll, 61 percent of voters said the vice presidential candidate is more important to them in 2024 than in previous presidential elections because of the candidates’ respective ages. Harris is 59.
Both Biden and Harris continue to receive relatively low favorability ratings among swing state voters, with 40 percent of swing state voters saying they hold a very or somewhat favorable view of Harris and 52 percent stating they held a somewhat or very unfavorable view of her.
Trump narrowly leads Biden by four points, 48 to 44 percent, among battleground state voters in a head-to-head matchup. In a hypothetical matchup between Trump and Harris, Trump leads Harris by a wider margin of seven points, 49 to 42 percent.

One of the great men to come out of #guyana 🇬🇾 Dr Walter Rodney— revolutionary and pan-Africanist.

Repost from @african_stream
WALTER RODNEY’S AFRICAN LIBERATION DAY SPEECH
At an African Liberation Day event held in San Francisco in 1972, the great Pan-African Marxist historian Walter Rodney delivered a clear message to his African brothers and sisters. The Guyanese-born author of ‘How Europe Underdeveloped Africa’ makes it clear: Africans of the diaspora are indeed Africans!
While Rodney was born in the Caribbean and educated in Jamaica and the United Kingdom, he identified strongly with Africa and chose to spend a formative part of his career in Tanzania. His scholarship has long served as a bridge linking Mama Africa to her scattered children across the world.
African Liberation Day was the perfect occasion for him to diffuse his message and connect with the people. The event was founded in 1963 to support the ongoing armed national liberation struggles unfolding at that time across southern Africa, as well as in Guinea-Bissau. For decades, African Liberation Day has served as an occasion to show pride in African heritage and the fruits of the African liberation struggle.
Have you read Rodney?
