Happy 84th birthday daddy!!
My father was born in 1939 in Chongju, a city in what is now in North Korea. He and his family (8 brothers and sisters) fled south during the war and he grew up as a refugee on Jeju island. He still remembers asking American soldiers for “bonbons” as a child. Somehow he made it to Seoul National University medical school through hard work and determination. He immigrated to the USA to do his internship and residency and practiced as a psychiatrist, until retiring at 75.
He raised two daughter (me and my sis!) with my mom and is a source of constant inspiration for us both to this day. At 84 years old he is still super healthy, doesn’t take any medicine (unheard of at his age!) and still going strong in every way.
I love you daddy so much! Happy happy birthday! Xx❤️❤️ I’ll always be your little girl! ❤️❤️

Overjoyed to share my conversation in @usweekly with the remarkable Marcus Samuelsson @MarcusCooks. We dived deep into the essence of his cultural heritage at Hav & Mar, inspirations, and the memorable journey to opening his dream restaurant in Ethiopia.
I’m a total carb queen, and the bread basket alone is worth the trip to @havandmar where the talented and beautiful Fariyal Abdullahi @fariyalabdul is at the helm. Their crispy injera bread is truly addictive, and their biscuits made from Ethiopian grain teff is the perfect texture to let a generous smear of salted butter melt into. Teff is an ancient grain– so it is good for you too!
Marcus has been part of NYC’s culinary scene for as long as I can remember. We first met when he volunteered to teach a class at Harvest Time in Harlem, a Slow Food in Schools project that I was running. And, we just finished filming a new project– so stay tuned for more details on that! Marcus is not only incredibly gifted, but also a true pleasure to hang out with– so fun, a ton of laughs, and full of kindness.

Absolutely loved my dinner at @humolondon, a hidden gem in Mayfair! The ambience captures casual elegance perfectly, a testament to their philosophy of combining the art of wood-fired cooking with the finest British produce– subtly infused with Japanese influences. Executive Chef Miller Prada’s passion for his craft is evident in every dish, transforming each meal into an extraordinary narrative of flavors and techniques.
Different wood (juniper, cherry, apple, oak, birch, etc.) is selected for different dishes, imparting an unique smokey flavor that lingers on your tongue with every taste.
My ‘fire dining’ experience started with a front row seat at the chef’s counter, the grill’s flames dancing as the evening’s entertainment.
The scallop was a highlight, a beautiful harmony of smoky flavors, complimenting its delicate sweetness. However, it was the perfectly cooked lamb that truly stole the show, tender and rich, enhanced by a beautifully crafted beetroot sauce. I also love the trout, blinged out with glistening orbs of black caviar– tender and luxuriously silky to eat on the tongue. Another plate of note, was a simple salad– but, it was full of a joyous mix of textures and delightfully exotic greens– one of the most delicious and memorable salads I have had in ages!
Dining at HUMO is an immersive experience, a journey where each dish tells its own story with the fire as the central character. Chef Prada’s explains each dish and literally makes them taste better with his impassioned words.
HUMO is such a clever concept– not just a restaurant, it’s a culinary journey, Even the menu is divided into playful sections entitled Ignite, Smoke, Flame, and Embers.
I’ll be back… there is a barbecued langoustine that I was eyeing….
