I’m really enjoying this read by Royd Climenhaga. It’s a practical exploration of the way the modern dance choreographer Pina Bausch worked. I’ve been a huge fan of hers for years and have always wondered how she created her pieces, and this book sheds some light on her process. She would ask her dancers questions like “What are the limits of tenderness?”, and so the pieces would build out of the dancers’ responses. There is so much depth to how she worked and this lays it out so well. I’m making notes, thinking about how we can use her wisdom in the record-making world. It points towards proper collaboration and there are many beautiful parallels. She’s quoted as saying “What do we do? We speak about life and love.”

The band and I are heading to Norway, playing @ravnedalenlive 2024. It’s been so long since I’ve played one of the most stunning countries in the world. I cannot wait to return to Norway! More info at the link in profile. 📸 @teteshka__
What a joy celebrating songwriting recently. Firstly, @theothersongs at the @thelondonpalladium honoured @jinjinofficial, @tobygadmusic, @bernietaupinofficial, @maxrichtermusic and many brilliant songwriters, the beating pulse of our industry. Then the @ivorsacademy awards presented @springsteen, @honeymoon, @kaetempest & @speakerscornerquartet I was deeply moved by so many of the speeches especially @raye’s speech about her grandad who’s a songwriter too. Then the best album went to the brilliant @yussefdayes. It was an absolute honour being on the judging panel, the only award show not influenced by record companies or publishing companies, but by the writing community. So proud to be part of it.

I met the Georgian painter @levan_lagidze 5 years ago today. Levan, thank you for all the conversations. I think you’re right… “You have to spend yourself completely, otherwise you’ll have change left over.”

Want to know what an apologetic, hungover phone call from TS Eliot sounds like? Or what Thomas Hardy was like in old age? Then Virginia Woolf’s diaries are a gold mine!! Currently, Volume 3 is my perfect bedtime reading companion. Once Sandro is in bed, we are beyond lucky he goes to sleep with relative ease (sleep gods please continue to be kind to us) then, while O reads about death on Everest, I bug him with quotes from her diaries, like this one: “I shall be off again, feeling that extraordinary exhilaration, that ardour & lust of creation – which is odd, if what I create is, as it well may be, wholly bad.” – from February 1927, having just completed one of my favourite books of all time, To The Lighthouse.

I’m so excited that my new, reworked version of “Lucy Rider” is out today, featuring my dear friend @katiemeluaofficial . I met Katie in my early 20s. She was one of the first champions of the band even before we got a record deal. We’ve always had a creative connection so it was important to me to have her involved with this project. And I’m so very happy that she agreed to be. ‘Lucy Rider’ is a song I wrote about a beautiful girl I used to know in East London. She had so much going for her but she kept getting more and more involved with bad company and all that goes with that. It’s about how she kept pushing away all the positives she had going for her and replaced it with the bad things. Katie’s stunning voice felt perfect for this one. More to come this year from my re-imagined “The Thief And The Heartbreaker” collaboration album! Listen to it now on all streaming platforms at the link in my bio
