Katrina Scott Instagram – It’s #NationalInfertilityAwarenessWeek and these are stats that I wish I knew before we began our journey to growing our family 🤍
🔸 1 in 4 pregnancies end in miscarriage
🔸 1 in 6 women experience infertility
🔸 1 in 8 couples experience struggles growing their family and need support
🔸 Secondary infertility accounts for 50% of infertility
🔸 Most organs that stop functioning properly lead to treatments that are covered by Health Insurance… except female reproductive organs— leading to high out-of-pocket fertility costs and treatments
🔸 30-40% of infertility can be on the male side and rarely talked about because of the stigma- more inclusive research and support is needed
🔸 Advanced maternal age is a leading factor in infertility with a significant decline in fertility beginning around 35— all while corporate America not only pushes employees to keep working, but rarely helps with fertility treatments, preventative care, egg freezing for female employees, or accommodating for time off for treatments, grieving, or therapy.
While it’s hard to revisit the struggles we’ve had, I’m grateful for the awareness that is raised to help us get better care for couples.
If you are experiencing infertility, miscarriage or loss, my heart is with you. You are not alone. You deserve more— more answers, more support, more advocacy, and more love.
We have a new episode coming on the podcast with the very first IVF baby in the United States, @ejordan12 – Her story of overcoming the stigma of being the 1st In Vitro Fertilization baby to her own advocacy of others is so moving and I can’t wait to share. 🎙️
