History is coming home! Four spears taken by Captain Cook and Joseph Banks at the time of first contact are returning home to the La Perouse Aboriginal Community. The return of the Gweagal Spears is a significant step forward on the journey towards reconciliation and truth-telling. Bringing our history back home provides an opportunity for Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians, young and old, to build a greater understanding of our shared national story. Congratulations to the La Perouse Aboriginal Community on the decades of work and advocacy to return the Gweagal Spears, which will have a lasting positive impact on future generations. 📸 Australian High Commission in the United Kingdom

No matter where you live, you deserve the opportunity to thrive. In Maningrida this week, I met so many people who are passionate about working to make it a better place for future generations. Our Government is working with communities across Australia to make a difference and close the gap.

Here’s what we’re delivering in Budget 2024-25.
Good morning Wolli Creek! 👋 Great to have a chat with our community about the tax cuts for every taxpayer and $300 energy rebate for every household.
Aren’t these kids lucky! Buddy Franklin was up in Darwin and held an Auskick clinic with 60 youngsters this week ahead of the Sir Doug Nicholls Round. Thanks for giving back to the community, Buddy! 📸 AFL Photos

On the Central Coast, you can see how the Government is delivering for Indigenous Australians. I met with organisations that are able to do more because of the support from our government. At NAISDA, they’re expanding their work as Australia’s premier Indigenous arts training organisation because of support from our government, including $13m in the latest Budget. At Nunyara Aboriginal Health, I heard about the work being done to improve First Nations health outcomes. We’re making medicines cheaper for Indigenous Australians by expanding the Closing the Gap PBS Co-Payment to all PBS medicines. I visited The Glen and shared a yarning circle with The Glen for Women community. It was a heartwarming experiencing. And at Bara Barang Aboriginal Corporation, I met with young First Nations people who are getting work and training because of programs funded by our Government. The Central Coast is a beautiful part of Australia, and it was beautiful to see how our Government is making a difference.

Great news! We’re making the student debt system fairer. Cutting student debt, improving how indexation is calculated, and Labor’s tax cuts will help make life more affordable. These changes will help all Australians with HELP, VET Student Loans, Australian Apprenticeship Support Loans and other student support loans.
Wishing a peaceful and Holy Orthodox Easter to all celebrating today. I joined the congregation in my community at the Church of the Resurrection of Christ in Kogarah for midnight mass. Thank you for having me along. Christos Anesti!

National Reconciliation Week is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements. Let’s walk forward together towards achieving reconciliation in Australia.
We’re investing in real things that will make a tangible difference to First Nations peoples’ lives. Health. Jobs. Education. Housing. Justice. By working with communities, we will make progress on closing the gap.
We’re building more homes for families in remote NT communities. In too many communities, overcrowded houses means children can’t get the best start in life. So our Budget delivers funding for a 10-year plan to halve overcrowding.
Creating jobs in remote communities will improve lives. We’re creating 3,000 real jobs with proper wages and decent conditions in remote Australia. And investing in things that support Indigenous businesses to grow.
Too many First Nations people live in overcrowded or run-down houses. So we’ve got a plan to halve overcrowding in 10 years in remote NT communities. And our Budget delivers the investment to make it happen.
