Melanie Lynskey Instagram – So thrilled to hear that this amazing play, Appropriate, is extending its run and transferring to the Belasco. I’m a huge fan of @nataliegold_48 and she’s wonderful in it, so ferocious and funny! So layered! So good! She’s amazing. Put her in everything, please! The rest of the cast was incredible too. A truly great ensemble.
I’ve been lucky enough to work with three of the performers in this photo- Corey Stoll, Michael Esper and @mssarahcatharinepaulson. They are all actors who are capable of creating that moment between action and cut where anything feels possible, where the only thing that exists is what is happening between you- where you are not yourself and they are not themselves and honestly, it feels like magic. That doesn’t happen all the time. When it does, it’s so exciting, and it’s the number one reason why I love my job. How lucky I’ve been to get to have those moments with these three.
So these magical actors are all in a play together and they all get these exceptional scenes- Corey and Michael both have moments that made me want to weep and also jump to my feet and applaud. They’re such great actors and these are roles that are worthy of them and it’s a joy to see.
But Sarah. Sarah. I was so weird when I saw her backstage afterwards because all I wanted to do was cry. I couldn’t believe what I had seen my friend do. It’s a master class, honestly. It’s why theatre can feel like church. You get to be in the room while something transcendent is happening. You get to feel the power of the performance, to feel someone’s energy reach into your soul and fill the room and make everyone hold their breath. It was such an extraordinary thing to be part of. It was too big for me to deal with. She became this woman who is nothing like she is, and created someone so fascinating and uncompromising and awful and beautiful and tragic. You cannot take your eyes off her. I would watch Toni eat breakfast silently for an hour. If you can possibly go- I know Broadway prices are exorbitant and not everyone can, but if you have the means and you love acting, you should not miss this. So proud of you, Quackleen. | Posted on 22/Feb/2024 04:08:09
