I’m writing in South Carolina, the first state which prohibited teaching Black people to read write. Anti-literacy laws were created only for Black people in the US. whole crackpot fields of study were designed to prove Black intellectual inferiority. INTRODUCING 📣 Dr. Dorothy Jean Tillman II at 17 the youngest American ever to receive a doctorate degree. And now she’s going to prom, baby hairs laid the ancestors rejoice 🎓
This was a panel on Prince … I told a story about being with him in Paris, I’d never shared before..it was the Tate factor, his energy isms that make you want to be a better damn storyteller .. @anamibia recommended I get “The Freaks Came Out to Write”- a history of The Village Voice (the VOICE, at times, a cultural life line) – I heard Greg encouraged @tromano_writer to do this book (of course he did) – I’m already having wild nostalgic swings writing what I am .. Today I met a Black Cowboy with a 90 acre ranch, 27 years he’s hosted a Black Cowboy Festival, 3000 people came to Rembert SC this weekend, on this land he now owns shares his wife’s ancestors were enslaved worked to death. Yesterday I went to an Iris Festival at Swan Lake, smelled the summers first magnolias met a swan named Sue. Friday my sister friend family celebrated her son, a Sumter High scholar prom king. My Lord set His people free” sat in sacred gratitude as a humble church on “the back side of the mountain” on Black River Road in Rembert, SC -Grant Hill Missionary Baptist Church congregation celebrated its’ 161th anniversary- the year the Emancipation Proclamation was signed. The ancestors were covering us but the children lead the service 👉🏽 the 11th batch of my grand baby on the ways’ biscuits greens straight from the farm supper 👉🏽 my okra seeds sprouted! #Grateful #SundayInSumter 🙏🏽
