Ok here we go. My dear ‘ol dad died suddenly last Tuesday. He was a brilliant mathematician, witty, stern, an avid outdoorsman, disciplined musician, lover of language, travel, his children his 2nd wife Brenda and her son , the grand kids (and as of a week before he died – his first GREAT GRANDSON) and all on the tightest budget he would allow himself to indulge. He was born on Passover and died on Passover. He was a practicing Jew and yet we both agreed on our disdain of Netanyahu and we both agreed on our love of hiking camping canoeing swimming arguing politics reading math games theater classical music and playing duets with me on piano and him on oboe and trombone. He was a unique guy who made us the oddballs we sorta are. He will be so missed by my sisters and me and especially by his wife Brenda whom he adored for 35ish years. He died abruptly and while jarring to us, it passed mercifully quick for him—doing what he loved. Walking on his favorite trail in Syracuse with his best friend, my sister, Sarah. Last night I attended a panel discussion by @americansunited with clergy from all backgrounds and constitutional scholars to discuss our what I believe is our greatest threat in America. And that is the threat of the quickly growing Extreme White Christian Nationalism. These are people who truly believe they are holier, purer, more worthy, more valuable, more entitled and more American than you. It is white ethnocentrism and if you don’t like what is happening in other parts of the world right now then I suggest you take a hard look at what is happening here right now. It’s not just the abortion bans and libraries and school take overs. They have their people sitting in the Supreme Court and house speaker of the House of representatives. Here is the good news — THERE ARE MORE OF US THAN THEM. But we must act NOW. We must Be loud and proud about church-state separation and the need to oppose Christian Nationalism. We must vote and if you can support @americansunited I suggest you do. It’s happening now. Not in our near future but right now. And we must stop this. Here is a link to the discussion last night.
