Misty Copeland Instagram – It’s hard to believe that I didn’t learn of Anne Benna Sims becoming the first Black ballerina at ABT until I was a soloist in 2007. I’m still uncertain of her rank within the company because of the lack of documentation. Unfortunately, the insufficient records of Black ballerinas is an issue I’ve run into frequently as I’ve researched the stories of the women who came before me.
