🇪🇨 In the Ecuadorian Amazon there are 447 gas flares burning day and night in territories inhabited by indigenous and peasant communities, irremediably contaminating the environment and putting the health of thousands of people at serious risk.
🔥 Gas flares are devices used by oil companies to burn gasses derived from oil exploitation, such as carbon monoxide, which causes heart damage, carbon dioxide, which contributes to the greenhouse effect, butane, which is potentially lethal for children, and methane, which causes skin cancer.
☢️ In addition, gas flares cause acid rain, which translates into contamination of rivers, soil impoverishment, death of insects and microorganisms, diseases of plants and large vertebrates, and other imbalances in the ecosystem.
✊ In 2021, 9 girls won a ruling against the Ecuadorian state to extinguish all lighters near population centers. However, to this day the Ecuadorian state has not complied with the sentence, continuing to be complicit in this violation of human rights and the rights of nature and putting the interests of big business before the health of citizens.
⚡️ For the state to allow gas flaring is even more outrageous now, considering that the country is forced to impose planned blackouts in its major cities to face an energetic crisis while the same gas companies burn could be used as a source of energy.
🌎 The fight against lighters is not only a struggle of the Amazonian peoples, but of all of us, as they contribute substantially to global warming, and therefore to climate change.
Join the fight by sharing this video and supporting @UDAPT, which supports the 9 plaintiff girls and all those affected by oil operations with legal, psychological, and medical advice.
At least twice a year, when the seasons change, I listen to my body and give it a DETOX. Even if you’re like me and you eat well and don’t drink alcohol – the amount of environmental toxins and pathogens flying around mean that our our gut, liver and kidneys can use some help optimising detoxification! It took founder Kirsten (a naturopath) years to develop with this protocol – consisting of 2 powders, 2 herbal supplements and tea… and it is both gentle and powerful enough to do a few times a year. Plus the menu provided is full of yummy nourishing recipes you will want to keep making.. Is all this detoxing necessary? Our (much wiser) ancestors were constantly using the power of plants to cleanse and strengthen their guts and keep their system clear. That’s exactly what this protocol is, a potent plant-powered gut detox to clear and reset your inner world. Everytime I go home @orchardstlove Bondi is my first stop – it’s where I go to be deeply nourished and cleansed. Pick it up in store or get free shipping for orders over $100. Link in bio. Just this last month the National Geographic Society (@insidenatgeo) made the move to include FUNGI in its definition of WILDLIFE, placing them alongside plants and animals.
This isn’t just wordplay; it literally means that mycology has been declared an area of interest, unlocking crucial funding for fungal research and projects looking to investigate and protect fungi from all over the world.
Alongside this significant step triggered by our partners at the @fungifoundation, the National Geographic Society’s Impact Story Lab has launched the short film ‘Flora Fauna Funga’ (available on their YouTube channel and via the link in my bio) The short documentary was filmed during an expedition to Tierra del Fuego in Chile, where @giulifungi @fungifoundation, @merlin.sheldrake, and @spununderground spent 10 days collecting samples of fungi and soil to research how the funga of the southernmost tip of the American continent live and adapt.
Foundress of the @fungifoundation @giulifungi is doing amazing things for KINdom of Fungi, finding new species, fighting to make sure mycologically inclusive language is included in conservation frameworks. You will be hearing more about this work in next month but in meantime please check out the longer version of this film via the link in my bio. 🍄🍄🍄🍄🍄🍄
When it comes to everyday textiles that we come into contact with daily – like clothes, bedding and towels – chemicals are used in the manufacturing process – from material acquisition to the finished product. I’m talking about highly toxic substances like flame retardants, PFAS, PFCs, cadmium, lead, and AZO dyes. Yikes.
@oeko_tex rigorously tests textiles against 1000 harmful substances, and products certified with their labels can be found in over 100 countries. With over 30 years of experience, they’ve made finding non-toxic clothing and textiles easier than ever.
Exposure to these toxins can cause skin irritation, allergies and rashes and even more severe health problems like liver damage, thyroid disease, decreased fertility, high cholesterol, obesity, hormone suppression and cancer over time.
I take a lot of care to not consume foods that have been sprayed with chemicals, but being mindful of toxins in our textiles is just as important because our skin is our largest organ. I dream of a day when these chemicals are no longer legal to put anywhere near our food or ourfood our clothes – but until then I am thankful that @oeko_tex exists to make finding and buying safer non-toxic products easier. 🌎🌎🌎
Putting this new series by @earthrise.studio, hosted by the wonderful @joixlee, on your radars. What does it say about the state of our planet when you are just as likely to suffer the health hazards of wildfire smoke if you live in Canada, Australia, Brazil, Europe, California – even Siberia was up in flames not long ago. I shudder to think that this our new reality and kudos to @earthrise for this new series that explores the intersection of climate change and public health. You can follow the series on their YouTube channel in the link in their bio. 🙏🏽
I went home to Australia to reconnect with my amazing inter-generational (and inter-species) community of friends and family… @nina_karnikowski my oldest friend always masterfully weaves new and exciting energy into my life – like the time she introduced me to one of my heroes (though she would refute and resist that title) but there’s no other way to describe my deep love and admiration for @helenanorberghodge. Her work has so profoundly impacted my life and I am honored to call her my friend.. thank you to @bebemoire for the new friendship and the beautiful handloomed sarong, @orchardstlove , @brooke.brash and @kinkalow for the tea and giggles… and thank you to the Gadigal and Bundjalung lands and people for always always nourishing me and pointing me back in the right direction. And last but certainly not least my grandmother Rafaela, 100 yrs old and still going strong. Counting the days until we are all reunited once more 🫶🏽

Before we decided it was cool to wear plastic clothes that never biodegrade (nylon, polyester etc) – we were adorning ourselves with natural fibers that include grasses and palms like Raffia…. What @madeforawoman have done is nothing short of spectacular – reclaiming raffia as a viable textile – one that is beautiful, noble, humble and luxurious and the same time. Employing young women in Madagascar where the raffia is harvested, processed and then crochet knit into clothing and handbags – designer (and dear friend) @eileen_akbaraly had humanity and our relationship to the Earth in mind when she first came up with this concept. I am so excited to see what she does this next season… the new luxury is being draped in palm leaves, harvested sustainably, knit ethically and then gifted back to earth once you have loved the item until it’s end… ❤️

Do you put a lot of thought into which plant-based milk to buy? I do. See, the almond industry guzzles up an enormous amount of water and those monocultures are really bad for the bees! Soy monocultures are driving deforestation in the Amazon and most cashews on the market have been linked to slave-like labor conditions in Vietnam. Enter Bamnut! @Whatiffoods Bambara groundnut is an ancient regenerative miracle crop that can grow in poor soil conditions and arid climates without needing fertilizers or pesticides.
Growing this crop requires very little water plus it’s long roots help fix nitrogen in the soil so its a vital part of soil restoration. This yummy supernut is also packed with plant-based protein containing all 9 amino-acids, low calorie carbs, prebiotic fibres, vitamins & minerals, healthy fats.
It’s a plant based milk that’s super healthy and nutritious for you AND the soil!
Find @whatiffoods BamNut milk at @sprouts stores nationwide in the US or order online! 🌈 shout out to @orchardstlove for their amazing tremella mushroom powder and letting me play in their kitchen lab to concoct this yummy recipe. And @estiloemporio for the yummiest linen threads. 🫶🏽
