(News & Information Only) Early this morning, Wayne State University police 12 Pro-Palestinian protesters while dismantling a tent encampment at the university.
The operation, which began around 6:00 a.m. with support from Detroit police, has sparked controversy due to allegations of misconduct involving the removal of a student’s hijab.
Among those arrested was 19-year-old girl from #Dearborn. U.S. House Rep. Rashida Tlaib and some of the victims family members allege that police officers forcibly removed victims hijab, an Islamic headscarf, during the arrest.
Video footage obtained by TCD News shows a young woman without her hijab, handcuffed and sitting on the ground, as an officer attempts to place her hijab back on to her. In response to the incident, Wayne State University has announced an investigation.
The incident has drawn significant concern and calls for accountability from community leaders and activists. Wayne State University officials have yet to provide further comments on the investigation.
The beautiful display of solidarity among the students @waynestate is inspiring. My hope is that our community comes together to protect the students and their right to have their university divest in war manufacturing and genocide in Gaza.

Wayne State University @presidentespy, I was here. The students needed to bring two of the main students back to campus to meet. Giving them no time at all shows how disingenuous you are about engaging your own students.
Meet with your students! One of them even left his work early to meet, and then you turn around and lie about them. This is not how you build trust being new to campus.
@waynestate @presidentespy The students are ready to meet. Yalla come down.
This is the Wayne State University @waynestate student encampment where they are urging @presidentespy to meet with them about divesting in war manufacturers and support for the genocide in Gaza. Instead of meeting with them, President Espy decided to have the whole campus go remote. It is absolutely ridiculous that Espy reacts to student protests like this. Meet with your students!
Listen to the students singing with State Representative @abrahamaiyash.

On this Nakba Day, we honor the Palestinian lives lost, violently displaced, and traumatized. We honor their painful loss of their connections to their families, land, and villages they grew up in.
The Nakba never ended.
800,000 Palestinians were forcibly and violently displaced in 1948.
The Nakba never ended.
Palestinian homes continue to be demolished, and olive tree farms burned to ashes.
The Nakba never ended.
The apartheid government of Israel continues to ethnically cleanse Palestinians in Gaza committing genocide and war crimes.
The Nakba never ended.
Proudly introduced a resolution commemorating the 76th year of the Nakba in Congress.
