🌺 Thank you very much to @thenewtinsomerset for having us to @rhschelsea yesterday. I was very excited to see the Roman garden and we had a thoroughly lovely time, despite the downpour! 🌺

Dr. Faustus. Book-in-hand performances. Couple of days rehearsal. First full run-through was in front of an audience. Final performance this evening.
🖤Dominic West as Dr. Faustus. I play Mephistopheles 🖤
In between shows have been eating oysters and donuts with friends and family in Whitstable.
Last time I was on stage was… 16 years ago! 😱

“For me, that’s the beauty of art—you get to explore excess, and you get to look at topical issues and you don’t need to have the answer. You know there is no real answer because we’re human beings and everything’s messy. But I think there’s something really cathartic about that for the soul. Looking at everything in this sort of simulated world, or simulated environment, which means you can relax more in your real life.” — @talulahrm

“She’s an icon in her own right, but I think few are aware of her involvement with the Sex Pistols & her influence over the punk aesthetic.” ⚡️

The Quickening was an absolutely phenomenal book and I cannot believe how shocking, yet compelling it was to keep reading about this Dystopian world @talulahrm has created!
.
Arthur Alden met Dana Mayer for the first time when they were at University, and even then she had a vision of a better world; one where women are in charge. Fast forward several years and after ‘The Change’ Dana’s manifesto is the reality. ‘The Quickening’ governs the rules for this new society, one that is designed to elevate and protect women. But in order for women to maintain control, the freedoms of men have been heavily curtailed. Arthur still loves Dana but he hates everything about the world she has created. Can he find a way to resist Dana and her rules without losing everything?
.
I loved how this story was told from the alternating perspectives of Arthur and Victoria, one of the women who is closely linked to Dana in this new world. Both narratives gave such brilliant insight into their different day to day experiences, as well as insight into their lives before ‘The Change’ and how the world as we know it today gradually disappeared in front of their eyes.
.
There was such incredible detail throughout this book and I was completely immersed in the country that was created as a result of Dana’s vision for a better world. The matriarchal system itself was fascinating, as well as the different types of towns, fashion and buildings created. It was also awful to see some of the roles the men now inhabit and the brutal ways their identities in certain cases have been permanently changed.
.
I found myself racing through the pages to see what would happen next and there were so many brilliant twists and turns along the way. I cannot believe some of the events that unfolded, especially in the latter part of the book!
