So, first things first, I’m British so it’s quite hard for me to say “You’re a badass” BUT don’t let the badass-ness of it all put you off this fab self-help book that’s little bit spiritual and a little bit rock and roll. First published in 2013, a New York Times No1 bestseller, this book has sold over 5 million copies apparently and Jen has since come out with a whole load off the back of it. I have a couple of her others but for me the original is still the best. It’s great self-help book for people who cringe at the idea of self-help. Jen opens by explaining that she herself was always one of those people – she thought anything ‘spiritual’ was ‘unforgivably cheesy and reeked of desperation” get the book to discover why she changed her mind. This book is like getting advice down the bar from your no nonsense, been around the block a few times friend, who’s got a whole heap of perspective, lives life on their own terms and doesn’t give two hoots what anyone thinks about them. Sincero acts as a tough cheerleader, one who’s there to give you kick up the you know whatsits just when you need it BUT she also manages to weave the spirituality of it all through the book in a way that makes it accessible and not off-putting ( at least not to me). The chapters are broken down an easy to digest, very readable fashion with a mixture of anecdotes, useful exercises, thought cues and more direct instructions, like: DO NOT WASTE YOUR PRECIOUS TIME GIVING ONE SINGLE CRAP WHAT ANYONE ELSE THINKS OF YOU! Jen’s quite shouty. This is not the book for you if you don’t like swearing, it’s not the book for you if you don’t like Americanisms, or being told it straight, It’s also not a book for you if you don’t like chat about the universe and vibrations and energy. It is however definitely a book for me, it’s intelligent, ballsy and leaves you feeling a hell of a lot better about yourself and that life is full of possibilities and a little bit of magic. I’ve included a link to buy it on Amazon and I’m getting a page set up on bookshop.org so will get that added too so you have a choice to support independent. Xx https://amzn.to/3VB7jRW
