A small family wedding in a small family chateau …
A first time for both of us …
Last night’s balcony appearance from the bride & groom. I was honoured to officiate at the wedding of Natalie Coan & Patrick Cadell – my godson & the son of my friend, the actor Simon Cadell. A magical 24 hours in Provence. (Next stop: Dublin. I’ll keep you posted.)

Good morning! Coffee in Paris yesterday. Coffee in Dublin today. I’m here with Judi Dench. Tomorrow I’m in London with Lulu. On Tuesday I’m back in Chester South & Eddisbury with @AphraBrandreth. Good people get my vote!
Well, the good news is: the costume still fits … (I don’t believe in bad news.)

Start your day the Burwardsley village way – at the Cheshire village Post Office where you can get coffee … that’s why they call it the Poffee! It’s fabulous. The cakes are, too.
My reward for popping up on Pointless was @XanderArmstrong kindly agreeing to be a guest on @therosebudpodcast … catch his episode of the memories podcast if you can.
The view from right here right now … after a long day – that started in Avignon, included Paris, & ended in Dublin – I’m at @theshelbourne ready for an early night. It’s an important day tomorrow: the Irish premiere of “I Remember It Well …”

It seems they were expecting me … Goodnight. (And if you’re up for a late-night podcast, Robert Lindsay at @therosebudpodcast won’t disappoint.)
On the right track! On the train (again!) with a good book – it’s the autobiography of my friend Charlie Ross. It’s quite a story & so entertainingly told.
I forgot to share this snap of last night’s soufflé! (Not my own work: Harriet’s masterpiece. Not Harriet, my @therosebudpodcast producer. Harriet, the novelist, author of The Translator.)
Break out the champagne! Exciting news that almost passed me by … yesterday fullrainbow.co.uk passed an amazing milestone: 5 million games played! Ain’t that wonderful?

New episode out now starring the brilliant Robert Lindsay, who talks to @gylesbrandreth about his imaginary friend, being kidnapped by a dog and the dangers of believing your own hype. Out now.
It’s Friday! It’s time for this week’s @therosebudpodcast with one of my favourite actors … sharing his first memories and, hilariously, much besides, it’s multi-award-winning Robert Lindsay. Enjoy!
KHALIL GIBRAN – THE PROPHET This classic –part poetry, part philosophy, part manual for life – was first published in American in 1923. It may be over 100 years old but it remains as relevant today as it ever has been. It is one of the best-selling books of all time and one of the most translated – having been published in over 100 languages. It’s a beautiful blend of many different forms of spirituality and religious thinking taking the form of 26 prose poems each on a different subject- love, joy and sorrow, children, work, law, freedom and so on. It has been endlessly quoted at weddings, funerals and christenings especially since its revival in the 1960s when its ideas struck a chord with the counter culture generation. . Gibran, a writer, poet and artist was born in the Lebanon in 1893 and emigrated to the States in 1895. He died in Manhattan in 1931 aged 48 and is buried at the Gibran Bshaari, Lebanon I first came across this book as a teenager and loved it in that earnest “I’m the first person to ever discover this’ way teenagers do, as it’s my son’s 18th birthday today I gave him a copy. It also got me thinking about how the books we read as teenagers stay with us for life. Examples of a few I loved in that earnest teenage way… On The Road – Jack Kerouac The Electric Kool Aid Test – Tom Wolfe The Rachel Papers – Martin Amis The Secret History – Donna Tart And many many more… What about you? What books impacted you as teenager and have stayed with you ever since?
