If I look slightly bedraggled, it was a rough, wet and wild weekend, so cut me some slack 😅 Brutal changing conditions made for really fun racing yesterday, and even today I loved getting the elbows out with some paint trading. Sadly it was for the mid pack positions as we didn’t have the pace this weekend, only coming away with a few points. These are the ups and downs of GT3 racing though, so it’s onto Zandvoort next time in a couple of weeks…

The streets of Detroit bit hard, heavy contact with walls, cars, we were lucky to come through and survive on our way to P6! Plenty of hard battling with it being a sprint around a street circuit where overtaking never comes without some risk, but it was rewarding, and plenty learned yesterday afternoon. We took a while to find our groove this weekend, and a lack of pace early on combined with a rare mishap from Pipo in qualifying had us starting plum last. Due to that, we tried an alternative strategy hoping for a caution that didn’t quite come at the right time. At this point (halfway in the race) we were staring down the barrel of a last or near-last finish. Luckily we chased down the pack with the help of some cautions, and were able to get back into the thick of it. I never think of it as fighting for P6, P8 or whatever, it’s fighting for the championship. Every point counts here, and the bad days are where you can really unravel. As it is, we’re still in the hunt. Big thanks and pat on the back as always to the whole @whelenmotorsports @cadillacvseries crew, and @pipoderani. #BeIconic #CadillacRacing 📸 @bcpix

P2 here in Laguna Seca, such a mix of emotions to miss out on the top step yet again but still come home with solid points and be right in the fight. Pipo had done a great job qualifying 2nd, and then had to manage a slow puncture through the first stint. He did so brilliantly, holding onto 2nd. I took over the car and managed to jump into 1st at the next restart, and did my best to hold the 01 Caddy and the 6 Porsche at arms length. We raced our way through the final stops and traffic, and it was looking good! I had built a decent buffer, but then the Porsche started really closing on me. Especially through traffic we were a bit vulnerable, and it felt like the pace advantage had swung to them. Eventually I lost the lead with less than 10 mins to go, getting tripped up by two GTDs in their own fight. Gutting, but such an intense fight, as shown by my heart rate being fairly pinned the whole way through. We’re showing our consistency though, and we’ll keep hunting. #BeIconic #CadillacRacing 📸 @bcpix 🎥 @chadengle_motorsportsvideo

This week may be race-week, but last weekend was the stag-do, and what a weekend it was! These beautiful people made it so, and somehow I escaped without any career-ending mishaps 🥳 Thankful for every one of them and those who couldn’t make it. Lausitzring is calling and we’re ready for Round 2 of @dtm.official. I’m feeling primed and ready after all that, because sometimes it’s good to put the human first, and the race driver second. That, and bracing a Scottish beach can prepare you for ANYTHING.
not racecars ❤️ a little break from races and a trip to the Peaks over Easter weekend for @alexwcranston’s (mostly) wholesome stag do, equipped with @alelbuth’s little point and shoot 📷

Coming home from Sebring isn’t the first time dealing with that feeling of incompleteness, a loss of perspective after disappointment. More and more I want to do things that help to take away from that mess, not add to it. Recently, that’s been riding as far from civilisation as I can and I’ve been looking longingly at the forest and down bridleways that snake away from the tarmac. @fairlightcycles are a company I admire. Apart from feeling like a warm group of people rather than a faceless brand, they understand how to separate good engineering from superficial choices. They are also wizards when it comes to turning some steel tubes (very nice steel tubes mind) into something that has a character, a spring in its step. The Secan model that I bought is their take on a gravel bike, throw in some @zippspeed and @sramroad XPLR bling and it just felt damn right within 100m of leaving my house, a feeling familiar from my favourite cars leaving pitlane. Expect some longer adventures from me on this rig. ☺️ If you have any questions, Dom at Fairlight is incredibly responsive, just fire an email in! Another great thing about them. See my build choices below, any questions just ask in the comments. Emphasis on ‘amateur’ despite the production value, cheers @lloydjwright 😅 The Secan has now been christened by the mud and grit of Oxfordshire 🤎
