Before decimalization was introduced in 1971, British pound sterling was subdivided into £sd (pounds, shillings and pence). 1 pound = 20 shillings 1 shilling = 12 old pence (abbreviated to “d”)

Donald Sutherland July 17th 1935- June 20th 2024. RIP Magnificent actor. Proud Canadian. Inspiration. His performances always full-blooded, his characters slightly off-kilter. Pictured here in his breakthrough role as Vernon L. Pinkley in The Dirty Dozen, directed by Robert Aldrich, 1967. Never received an Oscar nomination, though awarded an honorary Oscar in 2017.
Shark attack. New High Street, Headington , Oxford. Local radio presenter Bill Heine (1945-2019) ran repertory cinemas in Oxford, The Penultimate Picture Palace and The Moulin Rouge. He and his friend sculptor John Buckley designed a giant pair of hands for the marquee above the former, and a giant pair of legs above the latter. In 1986 they built a 25 foot fibreglass shark that appears to be crashing through the roof of his house in Headington, Oxford. City council were not amused and asked for it to be taken down, but it’s become such a celebrated landmark it now has a preservation order.
