Lee Daniels Instagram – I met Ivan Daniel at the CATCH ONE 30 years ago and we became fast friends. He took me and my friend Todd to our first black pride in Zuma beach soon after… a turning point in my life. HE MADE ME PROUD TO BE GAY! I think he and Duane Bremond were responsible for the first black, gay pride ever. He was an advocate for black gay rights at a time when it wasn’t chic to be. He continued to be a loud voice in the black queer community until his passing. He was very proud of my accomplishments, and often said my success was his success, and every black gay man’s success. He was a fearless leader. A true role model. Selfless! He fought to give queer black men, opportunities and a voice. My heart breaks that he is no longer with us.
