8/9/23 8:11pm It is 44 minutes before her show in Charlotte. The most gifted entertainer the globe has ever seen is improbably serene in her spacious yet understated dressing room. She is sheathed in a modest charcoal tee shirt that pays quiet tribute to her riveting world tour. There is little to suggest the storm of Black genius she is about to rain down on her eagerly waiting audience. She has graciously invited me into her placid makeshift sanctum to say hello — permitting me to thank her for her excellence on and off stage. But it is she who, in her astonishing humility, offers gratitude for the love and support shown her. All the while as we speak her daughter and niece play at the edges of our conversation, and like the great mother she is, she juggles her maternal care with sweet attention to the flow and substance of our pleasant encounter. All of us hug and pray and exchange love and affection for the Spirit of the Most High reflected in our midst, and then we snap this photo and I disappear into the crowd to witness a spectacle the likes of which we have rarely seen. I carry within me the incandescent memory of this great artist, woman, wife, mother, daughter, sister, feminist, humanitarian, friend, and performer whose scintillating sanctuary offers more love and concern and compassion and ministry than a thousand churches and temples and places of worship that scold and berate and upbraid in the name of a punishing God. All Hail The Queen! @beyonce
A deep and lasting betrayal.
I’m just asking.
Facts!

A splendid day on Tuesday in Charlotte with @4iamivy and the @beygood foundation she heads in behalf of Mrs. Carter @beyonce . Ms. @4iamivy Mcgregor is one of the most talented foundation heads and executives we have in this country. She conducted a conversation with me that was informative, insightful and inspiring because of her poignant questions and her sharp analytical skills. Time for a change @werattlenil 🐍
My man Rev. Jim Wallis has done it again! This is such an important intervention in light of the resurgent white Christian nationalism plaguing the nation! This is from a true Christian prophet who’s been on the battlefield for more than half a century! In his new book False White Gospel, Jim Wallis argues it is time to call out genuine faith—specifically the “Christian” in White Christian Nationalism—inviting all who can be persuaded to reject and help dismantle a false gospel that propagates white supremacy and autocracy. We need to raise up the faith of all of us, and help those who are oblivious, stuck, and captive to the ideology and idolatry of White Christian Nationalism that is leading us to such great danger.
I had the great honor of celebrating my beloved friends and @princeton compatriots @kwanzajones and Jose E. Feliciano, who put their titanic philanthropy to transformative use by building two dormitories on some of the richest soil in American education, making these residence halls the first to be named after Black and Latino figures in the school’s hallowed history. Theirs is such an important contribution to great opportunity and radical democracy. Love them both!❤️
Yup!
Michael Eric Dyson dives in with a nuanced and righteous take on the rise of Caitlin Clark saying “her epic emergence is surely in part about race, gender, and the myth of meritocracy. Other players, mostly Black women, are supposedly jealous of Caitlin’s success. They allegedly chafe at her stardom, envy her talent, resent her privilege, despise her popularity. By giving her hard fouls, tough talk on and off the court, and sending subliminal shots on social media, Black women are being portrayed as a grievous gaggle of mean girls. This narrative ignores how rookies of all races endure initiation into the WNBA through roughhouse treatment,” Dyson writes.
