“I think people were trying to make Drake show a passport as to his legitimate Blackness. He’s Black because he continues to exist in a world that sees him as a Black man.” Watch author and professor @michaelericdyson join @billmaher to break down the Drake/Kendrick Lamar rap feud and respond to critics who have questioned Drake’s racial identity.

“Taking Isabel Wilkerson’s hauntingly transcendent eloquence and then channeling it through narrative on film that pops off the screen is the genius of Ava DuVernay.” Author and professor Michael Eric Dyson raves about ORIGIN writer/director #AvaDuVernay’s compelling adaptation of the New York Times best-selling book “Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents.” #ORIGINMovie is now playing in theaters. My take in the @chicagosuntimes on the resignation of @fhunscripted as head of the once venerable and now struggling @rpcoalition founded by the legendary @revjjackson. “The hard truth is many around Jackson don’t want him to relinquish power, even to a figure like Haynes, who to this day adores Jackson and has not a bad word to say about him. The succession of men who have paraded through PUSH as would-be successors to Jackson testifies to the inability to surrender authority for the good of the group. Without a sense of irony, Jackson’s defenders lay out the qualifications to fill Jackson’s shoes. They miss the most salient one: for Jackson to step aside in grace and class to allow a successor to craft a plan of revival for the group while showing respect to the founder, and for the cavalcade of Jackson sycophants to stop showering down chaos so the rainbow can once again shine.”

My precious baby boy at a week old. Happy birthday to a child who grew up in the tough streets of Detroit and Chciago, two great metropolises, then on to Morehouse and now laboring in the vineyards of the NBA and representing our family with intellectual brilliance, great sports insight, incredible values and the desire to get better every day. I was broke, on welfare and struggling to make a way when he was born — I was a teen father trying to find my way. Because of him I began college at 21 years old to make a better way in the world for him. He remains an inspiration to our family. We are so proud of the man this bundle of joy became! Keep going @thedelegate24 Happy 46th born day! Love you man!🙏🏽❤️

The Reverend Frederick Douglass Haynes III (@fhunscripted )is arguably the greatest prophetic pastor and social justice pulpiteer in the nation today. His decision to join forces with the legendary Reverend Jesse Louis Jackson (@revjjackson )and head the Rainbow Push Coalition, the organization Rev. Jackson founded, was a force multiplier for justice. One of the all-time great civil rights leaders stepped aside for the greater emergence of a national treasure to ply his prophetic craft. The inauguration of Haynes by the greatest civil rights leader of our time, the Rev. Al Sharpton (@real_sharpton )sealed Haynes’s endorsement by civil rights royalty. The announcement by Haynes that he is moving on is not to tarnish the standing of Rev. Jackson’s organization, nor is it a blemish on Haynes’s reputation. Rather it is what we so often wish to see: the mature acknowledgment that two titanic figures and forces will better serve our people and nation in their own lanes. So bravo to two great men as they pledge anew to serve the cause of justice with all their minds, hearts and souls.

Michael Eric Dyson dives in with a nuanced and righteous take on the rise of Caitlin Clark saying “her epic emergence is surely in part about race, gender, and the myth of meritocracy. Other players, mostly Black women, are supposedly jealous of Caitlin’s success. They allegedly chafe at her stardom, envy her talent, resent her privilege, despise her popularity. By giving her hard fouls, tough talk on and off the court, and sending subliminal shots on social media, Black women are being portrayed as a grievous gaggle of mean girls. This narrative ignores how rookies of all races endure initiation into the WNBA through roughhouse treatment,” Dyson writes.
