Today marks 40 days since the death of Mahsa Zhina Amini, the 22-year old Kurdish woman who died as a result of massive injuries and trauma caused by the Islamic Republic of Iran’s morality police. In Iranian culture, 40 days after death, also called “Chehelom,” has deep religious and cultural significance. As the people have mourned Mahsa, it is notable how the last 40 days have permanently transformed Iran’s cultural landscape: Iranians around the world have unified and rallied together to call for the end of gender apartheid. In the diaspora, the crucial role that we play is to amplify the voices of those calling for Zan, Zendegi, Azadi. Jin, Jian, Azadi. Woman, Life, Freedom.
For those of you located in NYC, we would be honored to share space with you as we celebrate the life of Mahsa Zhina Amini at the unveiling of this activation, located at Broadway and 47th Street in the heart of Times Square.
