Every year . On New Year’s Day , in #Sweden , they play #Ivanhoe on Swedish TV. Since 1982. No one knows why. Tradition. And eat pizza. This is me , as the Very Very Bad Guy , Brian Bois du Gilbert. Oh well . So Happy New Year #Sverige. And to all you Non-Swedes too . 2024 here we come …
SINGIN’ THE BLUES. I do sing, not well ( and play the uke badly ) once in a while , because it seems to cheer people up . Go figure. So here goes nothing . It has a surprisingly climactic ending … cheer up now !
This morning was something else altogether ….
Emergency Xmas present . Santa says so . If you can find one. If not , reluctantly buy Bryan Brown’s book The Drowning . Go on .
It’s Mother’s Day in NZ . Alice , my neighbour, wrote this for her Grandmother. Number 5 is my favourite.
Meet the Delaneys . #ApplesNeverFall is coming March 2024 on @peacock . 🍎

Sheep farmer . Looking the wrong way.
APPLES NEVER FALL drops , all 7 eps , March 14. So here we are in NYC at the very tippy top of the @EmpireStatebldg with #annettebening and @misterjakelacy , with the greatest view of New York. ( Actually we could hardly see each other in the fog , but it was thrilling for all that . I hardly even got vertigo because you could only see about two feet down . ) Today is a little clearer and predictions are we will be able to see Canada from up there . Meanwhile , let’s look forward to Annette getting an Oscar on Sunday night and our whole juicy series starting Thursday on @peacock @binge @foxtel @tvnz.official #applesneverfall
Actually they don’t have names yet . that’s up to you …
Just a thought. Hot day …
Everything about summer is good here.
Tis the season to remember that some of us find this time tough . Missing those who aren’t here with us or struggling with holiday stuff . So ‘tis the season to be asking : “Can I help you out in any way ?” “I’m here for you if you need me” “Just checking in, R U OK?” Get free ideas on how to meaningfully connect with the people you care about this holiday season at ruok.org.au/holiday #RUOK #givethegiftofconversation @ruokday
Been named a LIVING ICON by Rolling Stone magazine. Feeling rather good about this , just quietly. I can feel my ego inflating slightly from its flat old tyre usual self . First of all , so much better than being a dead icon . Second , keeping company with such luminaries as Jimmy , Taika, Nicole, Cate , Tim , Neil et al. Third , i’ve been reading RS since the 60s dammit . And … just being noticed at all , i dunno… Right , that’s enough before i get up myself or something . @rollingstoneaus @rollingstone
MORNING mk2! Volume UP ! Had a few spectacular ones like this lately from my front door. Try as i might, i haven’t seen any aurora to speak of , apart from a bit of a glow behind our hills. Nada. Zero. But am I bitter? Disenchanted? Feeling cheated? Robbed? Nope . I just have to wait ‘til dawn and here comes another cracker , like this one a few days ago . Happy Sam. #aurora #nights #sunspots #catastrophe
I didn’t catch anything. But Roger did. #ourmaninnewzealand #catchandrelease #41/2poundbrown

TROPHY ! BEST PINOT NOIR at SHANGHAI INTERNATIONAL WINE CHALLENGE ! “Two Paddocks is delighted to announce that The Last Chance, Alexandra Pinot Noir 2019 has been awarded both a Platinum Award and the Pinot Noir Trophy at the 2024 Shanghai International Wine Challenge. It’s the 18th year that the awards have been held in Shanghai and there were over 800 entrants from all over the globe. Judges included Ronny Lau, James Dai, Jane Skilton MW, Cathy van Zyl MW , Rod Smith MW, Arneis Wu, Andy Tan and several renown Chinese sommeliers and wine professionals. A very strong result for Team NZWine as New Zealand took home four of the nine trophies presented on the night. Babich was awarded the Sauvignon Blanc Trophy and special mention to Trinity Hill for winning both the Chardonnay and Syrah Trophies. Two Paddock’s , The Last Chance Vineyard, is a tiny two hectare pinot noir block, perched high above the Alexandra Valley in Central Otago, New Zealand. It bequests to the visitor spectacular views of the aquamarine Clutha River below and The Old Man Mountain Range to the south and is one of the most southerly vineyards on the planet. Tiny volumes of this rare organically grown single site pinot noir are produced and they consistently achieve significant ratings – typically amongst international wine publications. The founder / proprietor of Two Paddocks, Sam Neill, purchased and planted The Last Chance site in 1998 with carefully chosen Dijon clones had the following to say about the win- “The Last Chance vineyard literally sits on the precipice of possibility and is probably my favourite vineyard site – whilst the bold Central Otago views are spectacular, the wines themselves are subtle, savoury and understated – and it’s gratifying to see these qualities being recognised and rewarded by the judges.” Sam Neill / June 2024 The vineyard has been farmed for nearly twenty years by Viticulturist Mike Wing and Winemaker, Dean Shaw, has been producing the wine since the first vintage in 2002.” @twopaddocks
