Amy Anderson Instagram – Mother’s Day is often fraught with complicated feelings for adoptees. I celebrate it every year with a little pebble in my shoe.
The photo of Aubrey and me with my parents in September 2023 is the last time we saw my mom before she passed that November.
When I look at my Holt adoption photo, I wonder if it was taken on the last day that my first mother ever held me. The last time I ever felt her touch and heard her voice in a language that would become a foreign tongue.
While this is my first Mother’s Day without my adoptive mom who raised me, I mostly feel like I’ve gone my entire life without a mother.
Motherless twice now, I choose to focus on my own role as a mother and the wonder that it is to see my own biology in another human being.
I’m so amazed that I get to be Aubrey’s mom. It is something that I celebrate every day.
