Our 20th Anniversary, 19 April 2023. We got you a day pass from the hospital. It would be the last time you came home… 9 days later you were gone. I put on a dress you bought for me in London in 2014. It came in a box like in the movies. You always bought me the best clothes. I never wore this dress, because I was saving it for a special occasion, a red carpet event. In 2018 we were invited to the premiere of a movie you shot with Keanu Reeves in New York. The perfect occasion to wear my dress. But I didn’t go, cos we didn’t have the money to fly me out and of course there would be plenty more opportunities in the future. A few months later the first diagnosis came, and the dress stayed in the box. On 13 May 2023 I did get to wear it for a very special occasion, your Memorial. But knowing that you wouldn’t ever get to see me in it, I put it on for our last anniversary and walked through the hospital in my Kate Spade dress to bring you home one last time… I guess the lesson is: Don’t wait for one-day-when. Wear the dress.
This will be my first Christmas in 7 years that I’m not moving, in a hospital or spending the season at home with a patient recovering from some operation. But it is also my first Christmas without you… Thinking of everybody having a Christ’miss’ this year x

To go blonde is never an easy thing, but to go from copper to blonde is 🤯, except if you have @nel_thestijlist behind the brush! Thank you to the entire team at @stijl_salon for making sure my hair is happy and healthy and BLONDE for @semisoetmovie number 2! #Jaci’sback!
“In Loving Memory of ’The Prince of Gingers’, James Alexander, 8 Jan 1978 – 28 Apr 2023. By His Grace. For James, who loved this view, from Anel, who always sat beside him.” On Sunday 28 April 2024 a bunch of family and friends went to the Drakensberg to scatter James’ ashes and put up a memorial bench for him. It felt surreal. One regularly sees those benches in parks and overlooking beautiful vistas. But it always belongs to somebody else. Some other ‘Beloved Grandpa’ or ‘Mother, daughter and friend, RIP’. But this time it was my bench… My family has a home in the Central Drakensberg and James and I’ve been going there for the 22 years we were together. From our honeymoon in April 2003 to our very last ‘holiday’ 2 weeks before his terminal diagnosis end of January 2023. We put up a bench for him in our favourite spot and planted a tree with his ashes. We had a really special memorial weekend with the friends and family. We laughed and cried, shared memories and photos and thanked God for his life. We decided to put a few different plaques on his bench as it was impossible to just sum him up in a few words. James would have liked it. It was a beautiful, heartbreaking weekend and I was just reminded again about how we cannot do this alone. We need our family and friends. And also, we need to realize, that someday, it’s gonna be your bench. That’s just part of life. Try to live a life that will elicit people to write the kind of messages that James, despite all his tortured flaws, deserved on his bench. Our bench…

I took some Valentines love to the angels that work at @sungardens_hospice. It was the first time I’ve been back since James passed away. It was hard but incredibly healing. These women loved and served James and our family in ways that I will forever be grateful for. Buy your Valentine something special today, but how about spreading the love a little bit further to somebody that provides an essential service in the shadows? Especially if you don’t have a Valentine. I promise you’ll feel the love too ❤️
The last stop on our epic road trip in July was at @gannabosfarmandguesthouses in and amongst the biggest quiver tree forest in the southern hemisphere. It was truly like nothing I had ever seen or experienced before. Thank you to Nakkie and Merwe for their extraordinary kindness and hospitality and for sharing this otherworldly experience with tourists from far and wide. It’s truly worthy of making it onto your bucket list. #roadtrip #beautifulSouthAfrica

I have drunk the cool aid and become a follower of the order of the Padel! And I love it! Early morning games with the girls at the beautiful new courts at @rosemary_hill_farm have become the best way to start a weekend. So much fun! @play360_padel is definitely worth a visit 🎾 #padelfun
