As you may know last week, Spokane, WA was impacted by two devastating wildfires – Gray Fire and Oregon Fire causing damage to over 21,000 acres and destroying hundreds of properties. This resulted in a state of emergency forcing thousands of residents to evacuate with their loved ones and, sadly, animals were left behind amidst the chaos.
At the request of Spokane County Emergency Management, American Humane’s team of first responders arrived as early as Sunday to assess the situation on the ground and assist with shelter operations for more than 1,000 animals under their care. Their dedicated team is working alongside local authorities and groups to assist with shelter operations and provide much-needed care and attention to these animals. Some of the animals in their care include horses, chickens, waterfowl, ducks, goats, peacock, pigs and African giant rabbits. In addition, their rescue team continues to serve as a valuable resource for organizations on the frontlines caring for animals in the aftermath of the Maui wildfires.
