Among the diverse array of works you see in this post, I’d love to spotlight the mesmerizing vessels by @aiozaki.works . Absolutely smitten with their stunning craftsmanship and profound meaning. In Ai’s words: ‘I made them to use as vessels for making pickles. They are also urns for bones, burial jars, and vessels for life, including our bodies. When fermentation occurs, the jar becomes a habitat for microorganisms. When making pickles, I put some vegetables and salt into the jar and press them with weight. The water from the vegetables seeps out, and the salty water overflows from its eyes. I remember picking up my grandfather’s bones with chopsticks after the cremation. This is called “Kotsuage”. After that, we had a banquet together, talking about our grandfather and eating with chopsticks. It felt as if the Kotsuage was still going on, and the urn was a part of our body.

Something you might not know about me is that I’m a huge fan of vintage design, both in interiors and clothing. This is my latest find that I’m incredibly happy with—a beautiful Art Deco burled wood cabinet in perfect condition. Finding such items is truly a lucky moment. It’s so much fun to search for that one special gem. I found this on Marktplaats, but antique markets also make me very happy. For me, these pieces tell a story of the life they had before and are often crafted with great skill. What do you think? Beautiful, right?
Versatile talent Chloé Chanté Leenheer joins us as an ambassador for Amsterdam Art Week 2024. Chloé Leenheer embarked on her artistic journey in ballet at the Royal Conservatoire and expanded into acting at the Amsterdam University of the Arts. With over 8 years of photography experience, she excels in portraits, featured in leading publications and campaigns. In 2019, she won the Natan Collective prize. Recently, she self-published ‘The Last Dance’, capturing the stories of Ukrainian ballet dancers. Alongside her artistic endeavours, Chloé is an art collector. This Art Week she’s very looking forward to: “I am immensely looking forward to the Amsterdam Art x Rietveld Alumni event. Supporting young, emerging artists has always been something I am passionate about. I’m eager to witness their perspectives on art and how they’re shaping the future of creativity.
