As I am an Amsterdam Art ambassador, I wanted to share with you some highlights from the recent edition of the Open Studios @rijksacademie . Among the diverse array of works you see in this post, I’d love to spotlight the mesmerizing vessels by @aiozaki.works . Absolutely smitten with their stunning craftsmanship and profound meaning. In Ai’s words: ‘I made them to use as vessels for making pickles. They are also urns for bones, burial jars, and vessels for life, including our bodies. When fermentation occurs, the jar becomes a habitat for microorganisms. When making pickles, I put some vegetables and salt into the jar and press them with weight. The water from the vegetables seeps out, and the salty water overflows from its eyes. I remember picking up my grandfather’s bones with chopsticks after the cremation. This is called “Kotsuage”. After that, we had a banquet together, talking about our grandfather and eating with chopsticks. It felt as if the Kotsuage was still going on, and the urn was a part of our body.

WOW! Exciting news! I am enchanted to announce that my photobook “The Last Dance” is now available at FOAM, Atheneum, and Scheltema! Holding the book in your hands, seeing the story come to life, means the world to me. I am incredibly grateful and proud, as creating this book was a journey filled with hard challenges. Happy International Women’s Day! 🖤 Today we celebrate the tireless spirit and endless inspiration provided by women around the world. There are countless stories to be honored, and I want to take a moment to express my deepest gratitude to an all-women team that made my book, “The Last Dance,” possible. I wanted to share with you this clip featuring @vladislava_kovalenko , one of the remarkable dancers whose intimate personal story is unravelled within the pages of my book. Vladislava, I remember the day I portrayed you in the former Conservatory vividly – that day, you shared with me the heavy news that your partner had gone to fight on the front lines. This moment has stayed with me, a reminder that although you’re safe here, the worry for loved ones remains a constant weight. Your emotional strength, resilience, talent, and growth demand my utmost respect. Thank you, for trusting me with your story, for allowing us to share in your journey, and for your powerful contribution to the book. To everyone involved in this project, and to women everywhere who face challenges with courage and grace: here’s to you, not just today, but every day.
