This is utterly devastating and a tremendous loss for all of Los Angeles. @frankbuckleytv we all felt your pain as you gave this beautiful tribute to Sammy. Sam @samontv was larger than life. His way of disarming everyone he met was absolutely legendary. He meant a great deal to so many, including me. Not only did I grow up watching him, but he gave me my first glimpse into tv news when I served as his intern during college. I was very lucky to work with such a talented, iconic, decorated broadcaster for more than a decade. I think anyone who has had that privilege would say the same about Sam. He was the person who led us through loss like this. What will we do without you, Sam. You were KTLA. You were LA. To Sam’s beautiful wife, Leslie, and four kids, I am so sorry. To my forever KTLA family, this is a profoundly painful loss. I know you will all get through it, together. I am always here to support and love you. I am so sorry. Sam was just 64 years old 🥺
Sam was epic not only at making people feel special, but also at capturing our life moments. Something that gives me some comfort is that I really cherished those moments with him in real time, as you’ll see here at the end of this clip when he moved me to tears. A funny side note— he was the first one to discover I had gotten engaged. He was sneaky like that. Masterful at asking the right questions, leaning into that spidey sense he had, and then…a pregnant pause. I would spill all my secrets haha. Sometimes you realize after someone is gone the impact they had, but I think a lot of us recognized it during his enormously impactful life. And that is part of Sam’s legacy. He made us feel like family. We had just spoken last week and he was always sure to stay in touch and be in the know with everything happening, up until the very end. It’s a beautiful thing to see, in a time that is wildly polarized, we can all unite in our love for @samontv 💔
“You’re doing great, mama.” When I was in the thick of it and got that text, I can’t tell you how much those four words meant to me. Let a mama in your life know you see her. It’s been the most heart opening two months with Alessandra and it’s going way too fast. I cried the other week cause before I know it she’ll be going to college 😭 I hope you feel how much we love you, Alé.

Just a couple pilots hangin 😜 I love how Harrison uses aviation for good, and his presence at the Endeavor Awards is no exception. The night recognized heroes who fly for volunteer pilot organizations nationwide. @angelflightwest is one incredible example. Pilots volunteer their time and plane to transport people on their worst days— a child battling cancer, a father getting an organ transplant, a domestic violence survivor who needs help. Aviation can do so much good. It’s why I believe it’s important to support our small local airports, which are under attack. “Alone in the Arctic” is nominated for best science reporting. Thank you @lapressclub 👏🏽 We followed two explorer women who became the first women to overwinter in the Arctic without men. Imagine total darkness during the winter, and complete isolation. Their intended 9 month journey lasted 19 months (!!). The tough lessons learned are already helping @nasa understand how to help astronauts endure long term isolation. @heartsintheice thank you for the honor of telling your story. Hilde and Sunniva are examples of the strength of the human mind, and how you can choose happiness in even the most uncomfortable of circumstances.
