Someone just sent me this photo, and it took my breath away. In the early 2000’s, positive interracial relationship iconography was not ubiquitous. In fact, Whitney Houston‘s love scenes with Kevin Costner were cut from The Bodyguard because producers deemed the images “too shocking”. David Simon had a different vision that had to do with telling the story and illuminating the truth. I am grateful to have been part of the magic that was The Wire. Imagery matters.
