Hi Yummy Fam and Happy Friday
I wrote this article for Essence this week and wanted to share. The kids and I were featured in Essence online during Mother’s Day back in 2014 and I saw the value of sharing some of the journey between those two photos.
During pride month especially I feel it’s so important to share stories of families and individuals in the LGBTQ community and their allies that expresses the road traveled not just the destination.
The obstacle course of biases societal enforced norms and thought forms that get in the way of each person being themselves.
In the article I share some of my own personal parenting and thought journey that wasn’t pretty but was definitely necessary to get to where I am today.
I believe hearts and minds are moved with proximity and exposure to human stories of people who they think are unlike them but underneath we are all the same in that we want to feel seen loved and accepted as we are.
From what I can see In the end it’s all about us loving ourselves and being ourselves so that we can allow others to do the same including our children.
