I haven’t had time to do much pottery for the last couple of weeks because I’m busy working on a couple of new books. One for a brilliant author I’ve worked with before (I’m not sure I’m allowed to say who yet) and a picture book of my own. A Pete the Badger Book. I’m loving both, but it was nice to take a break at the weekend to play with clay. I’d ordered some paper clay (thanks to whoever on here suggested that) I was inspired by the flatbacks on the @potterythrow Will it survive? I don’t know Will it stand up? I don’t know! Was it fun! My big news today: Despite my better judgement, I agreed to illustrate the 25th anniversary edition covers of A Series of Unfortunate Events in a period when my defences were low, and the skies were grey. It rained every day that I worked on them, which is as much as I care to say about the experience I didn’t love a single second. Do you remember my yellow magpie teapot? It was bought by a lovely lady in the US as a gift for a friend, but despite waiting for weeks it didn’t arrive. We tracked it to the US, and then rather strangely to Japan?! Then it disappeared. In the end the buyer bought her friend a different gift and I happily refunded her. Then 2 days later what should appear in my postbox but the yellow teapot! It’s circumnavigated the world, and I’m delighted to see my packaging has stood up to the challenge. There’s not a scratch on it! So- I will be putting it into my shop next week on Saturday 20th. There’ll be no sale on the 14th as I have a houseful of old friends coming to visit (hurrah!) A bit of colbalt oxiding. I’ve not used it on green ware before so it’ll be interesting to see how it turns out. I’ve still not decided on what to do with the border though. Any ideas? #potterylove #porcelain #handmade

I have to be honest, I’ve been putting it off because it’s so time consuming, and I have a couple of book deadlines that I’m having to work hard on if I want to get done. So I thought I’d try something new. Rather than a selling a whole load of stuff at once I thought I’d try selling a couple of pieces this Saturday, and if that goes smoothly, then a couple more the following week. I’m going to start with these two- which will be going into my shop this Saturday. I made this little dish as an experiment. I reclaimed all my scraps of clay and had coloured a batch with a stain. I threw a set of 3 swirly bowls for a friend (last pics) and had a bit of clay left over so made this little dish. It was a bit underwhelming as the colours had got quite mixed, but it did look a bit like the sky so I added a flock of birds. I love that just adding something simple can lift a piece. It’s just like in illustration where a single line can alter everything #ceramics #handmade #pottery #porcelain #lustreware
