Love her. @lucyfjones – our Queen of #matrescence – the book I wanted someone to write when I had our first child 6 years ago. Long-listed for the @womensprize – it was a joy to be out with her at the partay. We first met more than a decade ago, long before our respective matrescences. Look it up if you don’t know what I am on about. I found it so helpful and illuminating. Congrats to all those women long-listed and short listed and the winners for the @womensprize. A beaut of an eve. #writers #readers #women #matrescence #mates #booklover

Honestly – after school at mine was like a call centre – as I rang everyone I had usually just seen during the day and they, me. Three-way calls (remember those?!) were cutting edge. (I actually on to work in a call centre, a job I loved, and then later into speech radio- so I obviously had honed a passion for talking..) A few excerpts from my @theipaper column two weeks ago about my love of phone calls, landlines and Auntie Jean. #friends #phonecalls #godmother #phonerota #landline #nineties

“Do you feel sorry for Rishi Sunak?” @emmabarnett asks Lord Cameron and challenges him on the Conservative Party’s housing record. The Foreign Secretary admits on @bbctodayprogramme the party haven’t met their housing pledges but outlines some of the progress made. The Today Programme | Listen on BBC Sounds
From questions about my interviewing style to incredibly personal insults, I am sadly pretty used to being attacked online and yet, annoyingly, receiving it never gets any easier, writes Emma Barnett. “Quick to judge, slow to forgive – these are the times we still live in. But, not always, and it doesn’t have to be like this. We can each control our own responses and remember there is always a human on the other side of the screen.” ⬆️ Read @emmabarnett’s latest column at the link in @theipaper’s bio – where she shares how she deals with being trolled.
For the last six months I’ve been working on a series of new books and I’m thrilled that the first one I’m officially sharing on my Insta feed is…. “Colour In…Manchester!!!” 🙌🏻 🐝 🙌🏻 Here she is. And what a beaut. 💪 Let me tell you some more: last year, after months walking every inch of our local area in Brixton, South London, while on shared parental leave with our newborn daughter, my husband, Jeremy and I came up with the idea of creating a very local colouring book as a way of explaining local landmarks and sights to our very inquisitive 5 year old little boy. 🙋♂️ What started out as a small home-grown project and a love letter to our local areas of Brixton and Herne Hill, has quickly grown into @colouryourstreets – a series of more than 30 hyper local colouring books covering neighbourhoods right across London. From “Colour In Croydon” to “Colour In Walthamstow,” we are adding more neighbourhoods each week with the help of local people filled with ideas of what mural, statue and bit of the park we should photograph in their ends. People are rightly so proud of where they live and come from. Plus I think after the Covid lockdowns, many of us have dug even harder into our local areas. People are loving colouring in the streets where they live and love- or used to live. It’s genuinely joyous hearing back from people once they receive their books and start scribbling away. Plus having a sense of place and local geography is part of the national curriculum so some bonus learning going on too… And as of today, especially as a proud Manc, I am very happy to share our first UK colouring book outside of London, is of course my home city: majestic Manchester. Our hope is to cover the UK so do get in touch with your suggestions over @colouryourstreets and the more detail the better. Niche is our niche. Our Manchester book drops this evening and I would love for you to check out the rest of the family: www.colouryourstreets.co.uk #manchester #london #local #colouring #local #lovelocal #familybusiness #artstagram #learn #draw #colour #books #colouringbook #colouryourstreets #screenfreekids #screenfreeactivities #screenfreeparenting #kids #children

A week ago… I loved this surprise moment on @sundaybrunchc4 where I was able to talk a little about why we, as a family, created our colouring hyper local colouring books: @colouryourstreets And then @rimmersimon & @timlovejoy_official set all of the panel the challenge of colouring in print outs of their faces throughout the show. We all did it and you know what? It was bloody relaxing, despite being on live telly. Now I have an inkling of how Tony Hart and Neil Buchanan might have felt like creating the properly wonderful TV art of my childhood dreams on Hart Beat and Art Attack respectively. Thanks to everyone for being such great sports and excellent scribblers. Plus we have had a lot of love and messages after the programme and are working our way through all of the suggestions. I truly believe post Covid – many people having dug into their local areas even more. #colouring #local #neighbourhood #familybusiness #colouringin #relax #sundaybrunch #channel4 #livetelly #artattack #hartbeat #90s #ninetiestv #kidstv
