Holland Roden Instagram – 📍Ciplano River Hatchery in Vancouver 🍣Eat salmon? I had no idea of how many varieties of salmon there actually are..aside from steelhead and sockeye 🌊I also had no idea that salmon will travel up to 2000 miles!! in the ocean every year back to the EXACT river they were born in to spawn their children. 📈Hatcheries are new on my radar- they are so different than farms- they assist in the births (since they are risky in the wild) and release the juveniles every season which helps maintain diversity and quantity in salmon populations- where as farms they are held captive til adulthood when they are harvested. 😱They will release 400 million juveniles every cycle at this one hatchery (yes 400 million) ✨There are two dozen hatcheries on the west coast in Canada 🇨🇦 ❤️Such a fun 3 mile hike to have this hatchery on the route if you are in Vancouver!
