And for all these years, Brother West greets me with that big-brother I see you trying hard lil sis energy. Kindness. Affirmation. Even some joy. Outside of presidential politics, in every context-in the streets, in the church, in the academy—this brother gives me Ubuntu. He sees me, recognizes me. How potent is that. Can we all give that power to each other? See each other’s super powers and prickly bits. Celebrate. Encourage.
So here we are, outside after some slamming worship at Yale, glowing from Bishop Barber’s sermon. Bad lighting. Grainy pic. Not a great selfie angle. BUT that joyful recognition from one tired love warrior to another.
