Janaki Sabesh Instagram – “Every story starts with a simple idea”

There is usually a moment when an idea takes root and begins to grow. It’s just like how the concept behind my new book “Mugi and the Rainbow” was rooted years ago. The funny part is that I didn’t even know it would be a part of my adventure back then. It was just a mention of a prompt by a friend about a squirrel chasing a rainbow which stayed with me for years. And now I know why! When @dcbooks approached me to write a picture book for them, I decided to revisit that idea. It just felt perfect. Sometimes, everything comes together seamlessly at the right time!

Once I had the idea, I brainstormed with my young friend and fellow stage actor, @shreyaaasuresh. We had much fun and lively discussions in developing the story. Thank you Shreyaa for your inputs! After the manuscript was ready, it was time for illustrations. Navleen Kohli @odes_to_things did a great job and it was very interesting to communicate directly and share my vision as I wanted each character to have a unique and appealing personality. Her illustrations turned out exactly as I had hoped, adding a beautiful dimension to the story.

The highlight was during the book launch, last week, at DC Book Fest in Forum Kochi Mall, where I narrated the story of “Mugi and the Rainbow.” It was launched by the talented Malayalam playback singer @iamindulekha!
The most touching part was when she shared a photo of her little boy enjoying the book with me, so much so that he even went to bed with it! I am glad that it was she who launched the book! It felt like it was all worth it, and there is MAGIC in storytelling.

I was pleasantly surprised when they approached my biggest cheerleader and supporter, @rekha_raghav sister, to receive the first copy. We were both overjoyed and sharing that lovely moment with her was so beautiful❤️

This is a light-hearted book about friendship and trust. It’s about characters with different personalities coming together for a common goal. Maybe the real treasure is the friends we make along the way, which is also the essence of the book!
