Jenny Beavan Instagram – Now that the dust/sand! has settled and I can think a little straighter about the extraordinary experience that was Furiosa … I thought it would be fun to show off a little of the process starting in London, in my home which turned itself into a studio.
We couldn’t go to Australia due to Covid and quarantine restrictions so started the process of designing and making costumes in my sitting room and garden! Eventually moving into a tiny local studio after meeting the post-apocalyptic nightmares in the kitchen became a bit much at breakfast!
We worked via Zoom and FaceTime with George and with our Sydney workshop set up by Mel Dykes which, although not ideal, meant we had good communication despite occasionally having to be compos mentis at 4am to join in with production meetings on Australian time. This experience has made me SO appreciate being on site to work with the crew in person, but is a very useful tool to add into the arsenal of what it takes to be a costume designer.
