new @tashiwada record What Is Not Strange? is out today. I love this crazy beautiful thing he put out into the world. It feels very alive, squirmy, blooming, surprising, lush. It was made at a time of a lot of changes in our lives, and it sounds appropriately mysterious and full of awe. I’ve known Tashi and his work since 2007 and his music has always morphed in interesting ways. To me, this record is his most playful, with bright and mercurial songlike structures and the unique tuning as foundation for the other-worldly feeling. Recording and playing with all of the musician friends involved has been invigorating and I am very excited for us to play this record live! Congratulations my love Tashi and thank you to @rvngintl and to all the artists who helped bring this record to life. Composed by Tashi Wada Ezra Buchla – viola, electric viola @catfact Corey Fogel – drums, percussion @coreyvogeln Dev Hoff – double bass @thee_bass_witch Julia Holter – vocals, additional keyboard @juliaholter Tashi Wada – keyboards, sirens @tashiwada Produced by Tashi Wada Recorded by Chris Cohen @chrifcohen Mixed and mastered by Stephan Mathieu @studioschwebung Photography by Dicky Bahto @dicky_bahto Color correction by Julie Sadowski @juliesdwski Design by Will Work for Good @willworkforgood

Simone Forti’s beautiful show “An Other Pretty Autumn” at @theboxla is up for just a couple more days, until this Saturday, May 21. I was honored to be one of the readers, alongside Emily Mast and Carmela Hermann Dietrich, of Simone’s new poem “Another Pretty Autumn”. Watching Simone’s hands weeding and reading her incredible texts are keeping me inspired in these times (show photos by @theboxla) Simone Forti An Other Pretty Autumn April 16 – May 21, 2022 “There is an enchantingly awkward feeling that is hard to avoid when surveying Simone Forti’s body of work. To consider the works presented in An Other Pretty Autumn, is to consider her lifetime of work, as if they are one movement that is still in continuity. In this exhibition there is an undeniable weight and lightness to what is being shown, with the container of the exhibition being a new thirteen page poem, Another Pretty Autumn, bringing the movement of her life work to the quiet and gentle stillness of the mind.”
